Why I chose this oneIf you are looking for a SSD, whether for an upgrade or a new build, you have a lot of choices from both very well known companies and some you’ve never heard of. There may be a lot of your reading this who never heard of this company before and were either lured by the price compared to others or maybe you ran across a third-party review for it somewhere. If you are a technie who actually walks the walk rather than regurgitates fantasy specs you already know that this SSD has a lot going for it, perhaps making it one of the best overall buys you can find. And if you’re on the other end of the extreme, depending on the so-called experts to guide you, you probably feel a whole lot safer sticking to a brand name you know. Let’s stop right there and clear that up for you, the company who makes this is one of only two or three who actually designs, engineers and makes these things. Until recently they hid behind the scenes, content to sell their technology to those more famous names. Now they are available under their own brand name and the fact is that it seems they have saved some of their best technology for themselves.I am not a computer engineer but I have a very solid background in the industry. These days I operate my own photographic and design studio and have an HP graphics workstation that is substantially more sophisticated than most typical PC’s. My language is performance, not benchmark tests under ideal conditions or what manufacturers put on their spec sheets. The company who makes workstations like mine has installed Hynix memory for a very long time in their products, it’s what I buy when I upgrade memory. Due to the heavy use my systems get I was shopping for 1TB SSD’s and did a lot of research. Paying a few dollars more or less wasn’t part of the equation – performance and reliability topped my list, with the second one hard to quantify and not usually discussed in other reviews. I can’t and won’t put a number to that because this particular one I’m reviewing could die an hour after installing it. Anyone who quotes you anything definitive is someone you should be walking away in the other direction from – fast. And by the way ditto regarding those reviews who ignore everything about this product and give it one star because it didn’t include a setscrew. Really? Use your old one, that’s something that is not the responsibility of any SSD manufacturer to provide. The same thing by and large goes for specs. Whether they be in the controlled environment of a lab or something quoted in a so-called expert review, what is true for someone else you don’t know, in their system, under their loads, using their apps simply is not going to be true for you, so I’ll save you the trouble, don’t look for meaningless specs from me, you’ll just be wasting your time.CAUTIONWhether you are experienced in replacing or a new install of a SSD I suggest not just plunging into it without going to the manufacturer’s support page and downloading the three PDF’s and three apps (including a firmware update specific to the model of this drive you ordered. The support docs are free and helpful no matter what your skill level is. This is especially true if you are doing a data migration from your boot drive to a new SSD, the risk of some data not transferring or being corrupted is too great, which is also a definite mandatory to back up everything you own before even diving in.YES OR NOThis brings me to the bottom line a lot faster than I usually get there when evaluating a product. I’ll tell you why I chose this one and from there you’re on your own. I put about ten percent of my choice on it being the right form factor and configuration to fit and work in my system and a full ninety percent on trusting this brand to give me the best performance in its price range. As a side note, if you are closer to the novice level you shouldn’t have to worry about cloning your system boot drive over to this as your new one – the app they include (while not being the most sophisticated ever made) is excellent. It gives you almost zero options, which is perfectly adequate – easy, safe and as much as most people will ever need. Migrating my entire C drive to the new SSD took about 15 minutes and it gave me an extremely detailed report (optional to read unless you are into such things). When I plugged my new Hynix into the slot and powered up my computer it was absolutely flawless, every app, every file, every preference, ever login, they were all exactly when they used to be only now I had a much larger, faster and brand-new main drive.

  2. hello my name is

so far so goodI would recommend to wait for this to go on sale, if you can, seems to go on sale for a few days to a week every few months or so. Got it for almost 25% off the current price and couldn’t be happier. My only complaint is I’m unable to run a SMART self-test on the device, but that is not the manufacturers fault, nvme support is still being worked into linux. After a few benchmarks and looking at the smart data I see no errors. I expect a quality nvme like this to last a good many years, let’s hope I am not wrong!

Fast MemoryThis brand is excellent. I highly recommend this for performance verses the price. I have been using the memory for over a year now as my main hard drive. I have had no issues at all.

Works Great in DellWorks great in a Dell 7060. Motherboard slot in this computer can take an sata or M.2 type memory. They look the same but the previous memory in that slot was an SATA. This one is M.2 2280 so the speed is very much greater. Be sure you know which type of memory your motherboard can use. Some can only take Sata and this is not that. Doesn’t really get too warm. Popped in, formatted and copied my operating system over to it. Simple and easy and great test scores. Good warranty on this as well. Hynix is the OEM brand that was used by Dell including their RAM for this machine.

Very fast, very coolWith my Ryzen 5 7600 (non-X) and ASUS TUF Gaming B650-PLUS WiFi I’m getting great results from the passmark disk mark: 31499 overall, 3028 sequential read, 3293 sequential write, 2441 IOPS 32KQD20, 101 IOPS 4KQD1. Using the motherboard’s (small) heatsink, temps usually hang around 41C at idle, and up to 51C during the benchmark.

Best overall deal!I first purchased a Samsung 970 EVO Plus because I used to have an 860 and I recall that Samsung had their custom drivers and software that actually upgrades the firmware for better performance (unlike most other brands…) – until I decided to do one last search before I sealed the deal! The Samsung would have cost me $195 after taxes, but I looked and I kept seeing reviews on this drive and I remember that SK Hynix did have drives, but they were not listed on ‘other’ sites that I was thinking about buying from. EVERY review rates this drives as near perfect and the fastest PCIE 3.0 drive on most levels – especially write speed, and it is second to NONE in power efficiency and low power use! The only negatives are the PCB color (for some) and some small read drop off when compared to some, but it is still near the top.Anyone who knows the computer industry knows that SK Hynix, along with Micron and Samsung are the actual NAND and other memory manufacturers that sell or make chips for all of these various SSD and/or RAM brands, all others do not make the memory. This is why this drive is a top performer as they have their own, custom controller, which is very fast. Plus, they have a 128 layer NAND which is a first in the industry and provides many benefits. After review after review, I realized that the only drives that outperform this one are the most expensive and/or the PCIE 4.0 drives – which heat up a lot and are only available on AMD platforms. All reviews marveled at the low power use and efficiency of this M.2 drive to the point that they were shocked and memorized by it’s unusually highly efficient performance! They could not believe it’s performance period – let alone for a lot less than other brand’s top drives. This is on par with Samsung’s top and most expensive drive – the pro and/or the plus.I tried to go on their website and it was a very slow moving site with no real information on the product and no toolbox software or no custom drivers, so I was wondering how committed they were. However, I knew that they made the memory, so it explains why this drive is so great. Yes – the PCB could have been colored black – or yellow instead of old school green, but I am not able to see it once installed anyway, so it does not matter much to me.I tried finding info on it such as TRIM, drivers or encryption, but it DOES have all wear leveling features but no encryption. I did not mind the absence of encryption since my Teamgroup (which beat my old 860 Samsung by a lot) SSD did not have encryption or it’s own drivers or firmware updates. Once this was installed – it blew away the Teamgroup, the old Samsung and it made my already speedy PC feel like a new PC!The Samsung that I had always tested below the advertised speed. The Teamgroup drive tested 3110 read and 2008 write when the specs called for 3300 and 2500. The SK tested (using Samsung Magician) 3440 read and 3241 write! This is the first drive I had that got just about at the stated speeds! The increased write speeds truly make a difference in all functions! I was not sure of the benefits of faster write speeds, but once I started checking websites and DOWNLOADING games, playing games and video editing – I THEN noticed the benefits! Downloads now write as fast or faster than the internet bandwidth.Games like GTA V (or anything, truth be told) have full draw, INCREASED detail, coloring, speed, frames/smoothness and overall performance! It is clear-cut with this drive! There is ZERO performance hits that I noticed with this – only performance increases and a CONSISTENT performance throughout all testing! Photoshop loads a lot quicker. Vegas Pro loads quicker. Even GTA V loads quicker! I am running a 32″ at 1440P.I am glad that when I was picking up the Samsung (before I placed this order!), I returned it right then and there, as I saved about $55 and GAINED a whole lot in performance. SK said that they would revise their website and provide a toolbox (they should have had one before launch – for such a large company), but I am HAPPY that I made this purchase and I trusted this brand because they actually design, MANUFACTURE and SUPPLY the memory to other brands, so of course they know what they are doing more than the other brands!I give this the same praise as the pro reviewers do! The performance and the price make this a no contest for other brands! You get the performance (or better) of other brands TOP (most expensive) drives or better – for only $135! Again, SK Hynix MAKES the memory, so that is why they can bring such high quality for so low! If you do not know companies that are involved with the sources of PC components – just trust us and get this!

Excellent Purchase! My second SK hynix product. My second SK Hynix product, the other being the Gold S31. SK Hynix product as known to be good quality and non-power hungry, this makes it a good add-on to my new laptop. There are about 1863GB of unallocated space as shown in the attached image. The average temperature I am seeing is around 44 Degree Celsius which is still bearable. Have been using it for the past half a month and so far no complaints with the speed and there are no overheating issues yet. Overall a good buy with it being highly rated in multiple review sites and news sources. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy this again.

Great 2tb ssd ad affordable priceGreat 2tb ssd. My Legion 5 Pro automatically detected all 2tb and sk hynix cloning software provided in their website was fast and painless . Seems slightly slower than the 1tb version but still faster than I need. Worked flawlessly so far for the month I’ve been using it as my os drive just hope my no warranty claim on ssd streak holds up since I heard the warranty process for this ssd is real bad.
