Feature-packed, stable, and speedy! Perfect for the trained network adminstrator for their home or their workplace. This router does so many things so well (e.g. VPN server/client, multiple DHCP servers, WiFi hotspot with real login capability, RADIUS authentication, etc.) with RouterOS that I just couldn’t pass it up. This is the kind of router you would see at a small business or tiny commercial location, and it has the kind of reliability that you just don’t see in more consumer-focused routers!I’ve been using this router for more than three years now and it hasn’t failed me yet. WiFi is long-range, but cannot handle more than 30Mbps speed even at the highest level of signal strength. This is due to the particularities of 2.4Ghz WiFi, though this router will have no problem serving multiple clients at once.If you want more powerful wireless capabilities I suggest the Routerboard 922UAGS-5HPacD which I have also reviewed here on Amazon. The other mentioned Mikrotik router comes with a high-powered long-range two-stream 866Mbps 5Ghz wireless interface and I completely recommend both for SOHO-based networking requirements. The router usually ships with Router OS version 6.5 or later, but it was easy enough through Winbox (a GUI Mikrotik router management tool) to update to version 6.39.1 – the very latest as of this review. Same for the boot firmware, which often brings network speed improvements. For more information, check the change-logs available on the Mikrotik website. You’ll find these routers to be supported for years to come by new and better features! The upgrade brought even more new features than before, such as more stable low-range wireless communication and faster bridged network transfers. For devices that have low-power radios or low signal, like my cell phones, the improvements have considerably improved coverage and speed even at negative-80-and-less wireless signal (which is visible from the management tool as well). For internal network devices like video servers or file-sharing, you’ll find the new ‘fast-path’ and ‘fasttrack’ network transfer options to easily push 1Gbps without any drops or CPU usage by the router itself. The router comes with two switch-chips, connected to each set of five ports, which can drastically stabilize communication speed without any router overhead! This is a great thing for Internet communication because the router can max out 100Mbps+ with zero median speed difference. I have 100Mbps cable Internet and this router can push 100Mbps continuously to any Ethernet client without any problems or strange latency-related issues. The only issue I have with this is a lack of Mikrotik non-Wiki documentation, help system, or roll-over explanation but for someone like me who loves tinkering with all kinds of network equipment for home or business it wasn’t really a problem. Less technical people may find the router configuration daunting, though you can purchase books on how to configure the router or hire someone if you really need help since Mikrotik has its own certified people to support their products. The only settings I had problems with were getting the WiFi to work (you have to set it to AP Bridge mode, not Station) and getting my cable ISP’s modem to see the MAC address they needed to see so I could get a public IP (can only do that through the terminal console and not Winbox). The router provides 27-30dBm of WiFi power, or for those not versed in WiFi that’s about 1 watt of power, which is more than many consumer-focused routers (often limited up-to 21dBm power). Clients may not be able to communicate at that high 30dBm power-level, but it can definitely help with range if you have clients that do support it like laptops and external WiFi cards (e.g. wireless-to-Ethernet bridges). One router is able to cover my whole house through several floors and walls, and if you have several of the same model configured on the same network and with different channels the routers can load-balance WiFi clients between themselves with no configuration changes or downtime. The router has 10 Ethernet ports: Ether1 (the first port) is taken for WAN connectivity in the default configuration for this router, 5 Gigabit Ethernet and 5 Fast Ethernet (1000Mbps and 100Mbps respectively) ports are available, though I would have preferred a bit of consistency here. There is an updated hardware revision called the Routerboard 3011UiAS that has ten Gigabit ports and more modern hardware, so don’t forget to check the Mikrotik product pages for any new hardware releases! The Routerboard 2011UiAS-2HnD-IN internally has a 600Mhz processor which is absolutely great – with 20-50Mbps Internet traffic the CPU load barely reaches above 5% and even then that’s only for a second. With 100Mbps Internet traffic, the CPU only reaches about 25% load which means the router can support even more bandwidth! Official figures quote the router at 200Mbps max, but with ‘fast-path’ and ‘fasttrack’ enabled supposedly the maximum is at least doubled (500Mbps).However, with my 100Mbps max Internet, this router is quite capable at handling that as well as any background traffic like port scanning or network attacks. You can configure port monitoring and automatically define blocked/allowed IP lists with firewall rules, and thereby protect the router against Internet scanning with almost no CPU or bandwidth impact! To explain further, with normal firewall rules (at the stage where data has already traversed the router destined for another device or network port), there is some slowdown with more than 25 rules. However, if you instead use the raw filter options (that operate as traffic is first seen by the router Ethernet port), you can minimize or reduce that slowdown to almost nothing,It also includes 128MB of storage space and 128MB of RAM – plenty for caching any kind of data such as DNS entries or computer files, or for upgrading the router on-the-fly. The router supports multiple partitions running different versions of RouterOS, so that way you can have a complete backup of another firmware version to downgrade/roll-back to if you encounter any problems, though it isn’t done automatically. To restore an older version, you can simply boot up the other partition and continue working without any downtime! There is plenty of room for device updates, of which this router can support up to RouterOS v8 (as of now, the software is not yet out of v6, so there are several more years of updates available) with it’s Level 5 license (normally about $100 or so, but included with the device). The software is device agnostic (but not CPU architecture agnostic), so you can update the router to any supported version as mentioned very easily using your preferred management interface. It even comes with an included fiber-optic Internet port (module for connectivity not included), though I don’t have fiber Internet out here in rural West Virginia; the port supports up to 1Gbps or so I heard online. (I can’t test it due to no fiber Internet service here.)The router does not reboot needlessly, nor does rebooting take more than 10 seconds.Other devices may need to reboot to apply configuration changes, but this router can reconfigure itself without the need to reboot (no matter how small the config change is or what part of the router it concerns, like wireless configuration or IP address changing). The only time you must reboot is if you want to upgrade the router, but you can choose to postpone rebooting indefinitely as the process is manually initiated. The router does not reboot under strain either, the worst that can happen is it starts dropping wireless clients if they have too-low signal or there is too much contention going on, but you can minimize this with multiple Mikrotik wireless routers like I am doing. I have three of these routers now and they operate a mesh wireless network for my entire house – no problems whatsoever to report! There is a web interface for this router, but I never used it because I prefer the client software Winbox for management (it exposes all the features of this router without any need for continuous page refreshes). The alternative SSH command-line interface (and the web interface) are easy enough to navigate since they match up with the Winbox management layout completely. This is the router brand that you should make your next purchase, I promise you will not be disappointed!

Mikrotik’s hardware is solid and the software is great. It does have minor teething problems but nothing …You can’t beat the features this router offers at its current price ($115-120), and you certainly won’t find a similar feature set in the competition’s routers in this price range. Mikrotik’s hardware is solid and the software is great. It does have minor teething problems but nothing overly severe.I purchased this via recommendation from a friend of mine who works for a local ISP to replace a Cisco/Linksys E2100L I had purchased. The E2100L didn’t last very long, and I had purchased it because it was one of the relatively inexpensive routers recommended for use with DD-WRT. But, it doesn’t matter now: The E2100L has been retired after less than a year’s use, and Mikrotik’s RouterOS is based on Linux. Win-win! Kind of.I will echo the sentiments from other reviewers: If you’re getting this and you don’t know much about networking, you’re going to be overwhelmed. I’m not much of a network guy, but I write quite a bit of software that deals with networked solutions at various levels, and the configuration was rather comfortable. I suspect that even a novice could get this working without much effort provided they’re willing to read, learn, and persist. On the plus side, the default out-of-the-box configuration is mostly ideal for its intended use (router + wireless access point), so if you’re planning on using it for that use case, it shouldn’t be overly fiddly, and it includes most of the amenities (DHCP, firewall, etc.).Where this router really shines is for more complicated use cases. In fact, I can’t imagine trying to use other off-the-shelf commodity routers at this point simply on the merit that they *don’t* support the sorts of things Mikrotik’s routers do. (Again, see above; as with other reviewers, most of the recommendations come from people in the telecommunications industry–that should say something.) In my case, I have an Arch Linux box configured to act as a router (technically NAT for IPv4, but it acts as a router and router discovery daemon for IPv6), so I didn’t need the capabilities the Mikrotik offered directly. However, I wanted something with a 10/100/1000 switch, and I wanted to reduce the number of hardware components I had floating around, so merging a switch and a wireless access point was a win!The great thing about this is that it’s highly configurable. Every feature can be turned on or off as needed, both via the command line (supports SSH) or via the web UI. IPv6 support is a bit fiddly, and I’ve found that depending on your set up, you might have to configure proper routes. Moreover, using this as a switch + wireless bridge may mean fiddling around with other settings, and you may have to enable proxy-arp on your wireless interface. Not a big deal, though, since it’s capable of doing most things. Now, the bad news. I did have to knock a star off for this. Sorry, Mikrotik.First, this router shipped with a bad port on the 10/100 switch (port 7 will not function). I’m not completely sure whether the connector itself is broken or the soldering job was crummy, but I’m not interested enough to disassemble the chassis and take a look. First, I don’t have enough devices to worry about it, and second, I’m only using the gigabit ethernet switch. The router has two separate switches, controlled by two different chipsets, so that’s a plus. It’s depressing to know that one of the ports is bad, but it doesn’t impact me. I’m not going to use it.The second bit of bad news: A few months ago, the router itself started acting very strangely. It began dropping wireless connections at random, and the web UI started disconnecting me when I attempted to ascertain the cause, and the router would stop responding to any of the addresses I had assigned to it (IPv4 via DHCP, IPv6 via manual configuration). I fooled around with it for a few hours before going to bed, and nothing I did resolved the problem. So, instead, I finally opted to do a factory reset using the short point on the bottom of the chassis. The only problem is that the hole wasn’t big enough (not the first time I’ve heard that) for most of the screwdrivers I had, so I ended up using one of the miscellaneous bits on my Leatherman. Once the reset completed and the router was configured, it started working fine, and it has been working flawlessly since. The strange thing is that I never did figure out what the problem was. Maybe I can blame it on a stray cosmic ray flipping a bit in the EEPROM storing the user configuration. If it happens again, I’ll update my review, but the moral to this story is that strange behavior might not be indicative of a dead router–try resetting it first. Otherwise, it works fine.

Great router, lots of configurability – if you can figure it out (it will take work).Oh boy, what to say. This is a full featured router, but you really have to be willing to learn some tech to figure it out. It runs RouterOS, which is basically a command driven OS, and you can configure the router in all sorts of incredible ways *IF* you can figure out what you are doing. It comes with a few basic cases you can start with, and modify from there. I started with “Home Router” with a guestnet, and then proceeded to make all my devices have a static IP onces they logged on. Most things (I guess) can be done via GUI, but the GUI is literally just that: It’s a window with a table of lines of things that you have to sort out what to put there. There’s lots of info on line, some good, some bad, most not very explanatory unless you are a network savvy user. By that, I mean you know how, for instance, traffic is controlled, how queues work (or what they are), and have time to experiment.I was hoping there would be more “example configurations” on line, and there probably are somewhere, but the forums at Mikrotik are most of whats out there, and it’s fair enough that “you are going to have to learn how to configure this thing”.To be clear: This is a very powerful router. Even in it’s basic configuration state with a few of my tweaks I find it worth it. But I still haven’t configured a few things I’d really like to because of confusing examples – or perhaps more explicitly my thick skull goes a bit numb looking at some of the larger examples (I’m thinking specifically quality of service here – if QoS is important to you you *probably* want to get a router than has a nice gui with this setup for a simple user – unless you really really want to learn how network traffic works). In summary:Pro: Good router for the price. I get good wifi service – and it’s really handy to see where network traffic is going in the router Lots of configurability – if you take the time to learn, you will be a router expert. Scary to look at logs and see how many login attempts and attacks get turned away The preconfigured cases are probably good enough for most peopleCon: Some features I want are clearly there, but oh boy I can’t quite figure out how to set them up. Lots of examples from different revisions make it confusing. You won’t be able to configure this exactly like you want without some elbow grease. Unless you want to get into the guts of routing – you are probably better off with a router targeted towards home users.EDIT 1: The antenna on this unit are *NOT* user replaceable (not easily anyway). You have to disassemble the unit, unsolder the old antenna connection, and solder new ones on to you knew antenna. There’s is some discussion on the mikrotik forums about this: answer from mikrotik is uniformly “if you want to use your own antenna, by own of our open board units” (where you make your own case, etc). The range is pretty good already, and if you seriously need heavy long range wifi, you probably want to consider a mesh or stand alone wifi unit.

Excellent routerWith new fiber to the house, it was time to replace my old WRT54GL (running DD-WRT) with a more capable router, and this fit my needs. (I retired the old router to our AirBnB guest house and connected it to this one via a buried cable on its own subnet.)I run Linux Mint, and the WinBox software runs fine through Wine. There’s also a web GUI, but WinBox is nicer as it has features such as drag-and-drop to reorder the firewall rules. Some features seem only accessible via the CLI.Speaking of the firewall, this one has a lot more features than the consumer routers. Using the firewall, I set up port-knocking so I can access my system from anywhere, while keeping all the ports stealthed. The firewall also secures my IP camera so it can’t talk to China or anywhere else (except through my port-knocked connection), but it does track all of the addresses the camera tries to connect to. (So far, I’ve seen two addresses, both of which are listed online as abusive). The firewall is stateful, which allows me to add rules so I can connect from my main network to the guest network, but the guest cannot connect to my main network.I still have some more things to do. I’m working on getting OpenVPN working (also with port-knocking), and also planning to change my setup to use vlans to give me a little more control. There’s plenty of nifty built-in utilities such as a traffic generator and packet sniffer. Built-in scripting is also a powerful feature. You can also run scripts on schedules. Firmware upgrades are super simple, and you can even write a script to update the firmware automatically as needed. There’s also a lot of features I’ll never use at home, such as MPLS and BGP.The router is small, runs cool, and the all-metal construction seems sturdy. Having 10 ports is handy. The router doesn’t support the fastest WiFi speeds, but that’s fine for my needs. Documentation is not as mature as for other brands, but the Mikrotik website has a wiki and a forum to help answer whatever questions I may have. Now I kinda wish all my routers were Mikrotik. Maybe one day…UPDATE (Jan 19, 2022):This router is still holding up and I’ve had absolutely no problems with it. I bought a cheap ($24.53) Mikrotik hAP lite for the guest house which I bricked somehow. Bought an hAP AC lite ($49) to replace it, which I also bricked. I think I’ll replace the guest house unit with one of these.UPDATE (Jun 26, 2022):Still no problems with this router. And the two cheap Mikrotik’s I mentioned earlier I got working again as well.

Not your average router. AMAZING price for all the things this can do.I am so amazed with this product. It’s powerful, flexible, inside a robust metal case, sports external antennas, USB data access, ability to use web-based configuration, command line configuration, or Windows configuration program, and this even a touchscreen LCD panel built right in!The catch? You will have to learn how to use it. I am a standard user with a desire to tinker, so have been running DD-WRT (custom firmware) for my old WRT-54GL. I found that setup easy to use, even though there are many advanced features available, for the most part I could ignore them. Now, this Mikrotik product made me wonder if purchasing it was a mistake once I booted it up and logged into the interface the first time. There is a “quick set” feature that will preload many standard settings that will turn the Mikrotik router into your basic home router, where you plug in your modem on Ethernet port #1, and the rest of the 9 ports act as your local bridged network. With quick set, you can be up and running in no time, but the setup will be basic… and if you’re looking at this router, I know you want to do some fun stuff with it.Want to do DDNS? You’ll need a script+schedule to get that working. Want to do some port forwarding? You’ll need to 1) allow access through the firewall for whatever port you want to use, and 2) create a NAT rule that handles this incoming connection on that port. Automatic backup to file on local storage + email you a copy? Make a schedule for it. And so on and so forth. This thing seems to be very versatile. So far, everything I want to do can be done, but you can’t always assume it will be a simple task… or even straightforward. I know I’m barely tapping the potential of this thing, but as a hobbyist/tinkerer, it’s been a good investment. Also, the RouterOS license that you need for this is built in. There are no licensing feeds – just buy the hardware and it works – unlike enterprise-class Cisco products, etc…I read that power users (e.g. those used to the aforementioned Cisco products) will have no problem adjusting to RouterOS. It’s different, but if you are already messing with the high-class gear, you probably have a good idea of what you’re doing. For basic users like me, it was more of a fun project, but can clearly see the potential of this device. Also, if you need help, the Mikrotik community is great. I’ve received so many scripting tips and troubleshooting techniques just by browsing the forums.Just take it slow and get to know the router. Treat it with respect and invest some time into it – it’s different than what you’re used to, but that’s okay. You might even form a long lasting bond with this amazing piece of tech, ha! 🙂

Complex piece of hardware, but very full-featured and appears to be of great qualityI took the chance and ordered up one of these so I didn’t have to use my FIOS router anymore.About the only feature really “missing” would be 5Ghz wifi, as this is 2.4Ghz only. If you don’t know what that means then you’re probably not considering this router, though. One can always use a separate access point, as I do already, so if you need “AC” wifi, you can still have that.Is the setup complex? Yes, but no. There is an easy way to configure this through the browser, much like any other in a “quick” setup section where you can define your SSID, wifi password and encryption, and your router password. The first port would be the one you hook to your cable modem or other ISP box, though this can be configured to make it any of the ports deeper in the settings. As shown, there are 5 gigabit ports, and 5 10/100 ports. That’s way more than most routers provide, and chances are you have plenty of 10/100 devices that won’t use the gigabit speeds anyway. You can always configure your DHCP client port (the one that goes to the ISP) to be one of these, too. This also has a SFP cage, which you can use to hook up to a fiber connection if you have “fiber to the home” and it can be your DHCP client port even in the “easy” settings. This supports 1Gbps (10Gbps is another league price-wise), and you can even get a gigabit copper SFP adapter so you can have another gigabit Ethernet port for $20 or so. The USB port up front works with a provided “USB on the go” cable so that you can hook up either an external drive or a 3G/4G adapter to use for internet service, too.The router isn’t even that big, really…its smaller than the FIOS one I had. It seems to perform well in my home, where I have this, a 5Ghz AP, and 3 switches, all filled up with about 20 Ethernet devices. The configuration options are very deep, and I look forward to learning about what they all do, but you don’t necessarily NEED to fiddle with them.UPDATE: 2.5 years later, and this thing is just solid. I’ve never had to reset it unless updating firmware, and it will handle anything I throw at it.

A really superb routerThis router was purchased for home use on the advice of my local ISP. I’ve owned over half a dozen routers, and installed that many for friends and family. I can say without hesitation that this Mikrotik is the best I’ve ever used, from the standpoint of its very deep featureset, complete configurability, manufacturer patch support, and so far, its reliability. You can set up this router to just be a durable, high-SN ratio home router, but one of its intended applications is a small hotel. That should give you a sense of what its reliability and capabilities for security, control and throughput are.To give you a sense of what it can do (it can do much more than I do with it), I’ve got it set up to be my DNS server, and with that I squelch malware domains, abusive ads, and general junk for all wifi devices in the house. In addition to DNS, I have > 13,000 specifically blocked domains (like a hosts file in desktop OS terms), and then I also convert the Firehol blocklist (with over 600 million malware IPs) to .rsc format and upload that periodically. I can log and examine all incoming and outgoing hits by or against malware domains. The manufacturer is quick to provide online updates to the firmware and routerOS. I log in every couple weeks and update. Mikrotik and many other routers suffered a severe attack against a vulnerability a few months ago. Mikrotik was among the first to acknowledge the vuln and quickly patched for it. They have an active, massive online forum and an extensive and frequently updated wiki and how-to.This is not a beginner’s router, though it can be made to act that way. If you’re looking for a preconfigured ready out-of-the-box router, don’t get this one. There are lots of consumer-grade routers that do that just fine. This one fits into and stokes the mindset that with great configurability and a bit of a learning curve come great results. I won’t say I’ve merely scratched the surface, but there’s a lot more to appreciate I’m sure.

Fast router, lots of options most won’t need. Model I got has endless reboot problem.I got this because my existing home router was very laggy when attempting to use the in-home streaming feature of the Steam gaming platform client. On the cisco branded linksys router, I would get messages about slow network and lots of lag when attempting to play a game on my surface pro that is streamed from my desktop gaming pc.When I switched to this router, I was getting FANTASTIC performance, and found it was as good as playing at the PC it was really running on.Pros:For feature set, quality, and speed, best bang for buck.Has a downloadable client that can be used to manage device.Very Robust CLI, although quite a bit of learning curveGigabit ports, POE, SFP, and advanced layer 2/3 features? more than a home user would need, but this could make it great for a small business.Cons:BIGGEST con: Despite having the most up to date firmware and OS, it would randomly reboot. I downgraded and still had problem. I don’t know if this is a problem with specific runs, or certain unstable images that they give out. It seems this issue happens on a lot of different models/OS versions. This makes it a non starter for any business, and extremely annoying for home user. I am returning mine and will get another one, but perhaps a different model, and we will see. This is the reason why I am docking 2 stars from it.Only one status LED per port, and instead of indcating port status, they indicate activity, which means when in use they blink constantly, which is highly annoying. This cannot be changed. There is a section in the RouterOS web menu and client for changing this, but it is unclear, and according to online documentation not supported. I see no excuse for this. For home user, probably a little bit more aggravation setting up. For someone a bit more technically inclined, this will give a major performance reliability boost over mainstream consumer routers (provided you don’t get the reboot issue like I did)For professional user, would still require a little learning curveDocumentation isn’t always completely clear, I feel they would benefit from having an english fluent technical writer.

The most complex piece of love in a networkers life.Let me tell you right from the get go, just in case anyone else hasn’t said it already, that this router is one complex *blankity blank* if you know what I mean. HOWEVER, it is truly a master of doing the routing stuff. I bought this for two very big reasons.1. I was sick and tired of every commercial N router from D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, TP-Link and so on just dropping my connections all the time. Approximately 15 connections on my routers wireless network alone to be liberal.2. I had just passed my CCENT and CCNA and Network+ certifications and wanted a real piece of hardware for my own dissecting pleasure without spending a fortune on a, not even new, Cisco server router. Let me tell you this bad boy delivers better than Ron Jeremy did back in his hay days. It has everything from simple wireless setting such as hiding SSID, NAT, and Bridging all the way to running separate subnets on specific ports and separating wireless “clouds” so you can have different IP’s running off the same wireless bands. Like a private and public IP for example. What’s even better is that the PPPoE is really smooth on this router so if you want to dump that junk DSL Router/Modem/Wireless/BULLDOOKIE that you ISP so graciously gave you this will easily do all the ISP connecting for you so long as you have the username and password from your ISP among other settings. Just throw the ISP-POS into Bridge mode, set this up for PPPoE with all the login info and voila! Much better ping response and better traffic load handling. If you know the definitions of every abbreviation I just used then you need this router for your own diabolical networking schemes. IF you didn’t understand anything I just said. Leave this page and find a different router. Quickly.

Excellent!!!!This is very easy router to setup and work with. If you do not want to go through lot of hassle (like asus, linksys and other consumer routers), just plug in the internet coming out of your modem into ETH1 port(the most left port) port and all other ports will be will automatically supply you internet, just like dlink, asus, and other easy routers. So yes, it does work out of the box without doing anything. You can configure the router through webpage or winbox program you can download (if you use windows, different one for mac and linux). Now if you REALLY wanna play hard (and thats why you buy this router to begin with), you can also do that. That is if you want to setup port forwarding, vlan, set internet speed limit for individual users, etc. I do not know why people keep saying you need to be network expert or know about lot of networking blah blah to handle this router, for god sake people, just goto you tube and put the following in the search “MikroTik Router/Access Point Basic Setup”. The first video (should be same title as the search) is very good and takes you step by step to do set the way you want. I definitely recommend it. There are so many video tutorials for it that this router is no longer a mystery for non-expert(is there such a word?) network users like us While on networking subject, get a free programmer such as Advanced Ip Scanner, it is a life saver, helps you find all the devices on your network. In case you are at a place where the router sucks or you don’t have access to it, this baby helps you find other devices.

Makes for a really good home router; possible wireless limitation.Very strong router, endless capabilities. I’m used to dealing with DD-WRT, ClearOS, and pfSense. I turned this on and it operates a lot like any other commercial router. This isn’t something to get for the typical person wanting a user friendly GUI. It takes some experience to set it up, or at least patience to find out how. I was a bit lost at but I did eventually figure it out. Basically if your used to a Linksys, Belkin, NETGEAR, or 2wire style interface, this isn’t a router for you. It is powerful but you need to know how to set it to get the most out of it, isn’t exactly plug-n-play.One thing to note, out of the box I’m only able to achieve 4-5MB/s [32-40Mbps] max transfer over WLAN. Took quite a bit of tweaking but I finally was able to achieve a 12.2MB/s solid from my server connected via gigabit. However, that is only 100Mbps on a single client over a 150Mbps Wireless N capable connection. If I download the file over ethernet, I get it at 123MB/s so I know it isn’t my server or ports. I just can’t seem to get any higher than this on wireless. Not sure if the wireless chip is binded to a 100Mbps interface internally and this is the limitation of it?Other than this small issue, I have replaced the antennas on it with coax terminations and have installed 2x9dBi antennas on the unit to increase the range a bit. However, same results persist with bandwidth limitation. Otherwise I’m not too bothered by it, definitely worth the money. I only use it as an access point instead of a router at the moment. Just was tired of my current router’s 71mW and intennas.

Mikrotik never disappointsThis has to be one of the best routers that you can possibly get for the house. I bought one of these for my inlaws as well. I have a background in networking and it has plenty of knobs to turn to your heart’s desire. My inlaws don’t have any advanced knowledge in networking and they were able to quickly configure their router via the QuickSet script that displays upon logging in. You can administer the router via telnet, ssh, web or Mikrotik’s WinBox utility. Speeds are great, distance is great, and they just work. I always used Mikrotik for my home router and haven’t been disappointed. To give you an idea of what I am currently doing with this thing:1) I send my kids DNS request to OpenDNS while ours don’t.2) Auto update with DNSoMATIC with a script on poweron and daily.3) Opened up the API so my wife can go to a webpage and disable internet for the kids.4) Multiple SSIDs. The Guest network gets sent to OpenDNS as well.5) Have QueueTrees setup that uses PCQ to split the queues between users to give more of a fair internet experience. Don’t have to hear about someone hogging all the bandwidth. And I have so much more on this thing going on. Do a search via a search engine for “Mikrotik Scripts” and you will be able to see some of the stuff that can be capable. If you are looking for a rock solid router that just works you have found it. If you are looking for the latest hit-and-miss tech then go elsewhere.Everyone has opinions and mine is that this is a great product.

A review by a nontechieI’ve been through at least half a dozen consumer-grade routers over the past few years, some of them no less expensive than the Mikrotek. Most eventually fail on one way or another, and all seem to require regular rebooting to work. Fed up, I bought this on the recommendation of a friend who is a serious networking expert. The first thing you’ll notice is that it looks and feels pretty cool–like a small piece of industrial hardware rsther than some cheap molded plastic thing. It also has this little bitty color LCD display. You can touch it and it goes blank for security! NEAT-O!If you know almost nothing about networking like me and you go to the configuration screens you’ll feel sudden awe and terror. Might as well be written in Latin. Wow, there are so many things to change! Are there actual humans who understand all this stuff? I’m sure all this stuff is useful if you live in North Korea and are out to hack Sony. The great news is that if all you want to do is name your network and put a password on it, that’s really simple. I also figured out how to block ports, which is the fanciest thing I’d ever need to do. I wouldn’t buy one of these for my Dad, but most everyone else could figure it out no problem.Once configured, it works great. I haven’t reset it once, and range is appreciably better than any other router I’ve owned before. Plus, I feel like a total stud for having such a sophisticated piece of hardware in my office. Please don’t tell anyone that I have no idea how it works. Thanks.

Excellent router with high end Level 2&3 softwareBest freaking router software with very cheap price.Pro’s: First off, no, this is not a normal router. Although you can set it up as such. This has router software that is capable of switching, vlans, mpls, vpls, vrrp, wireless, firewalling, web proxy, hotspot(web page injection and web direction), notification scripts, snmp, ntp, up-down notices, traffic shaping, bandwidth shaping, bandwidth queues, and so so much more. This software, combined with their cheap(priced) hardware is capable of Level 2 and Level 3 vlans and routing. I use it exclusively at my home. It is beyond capable of anything you throw at it.Con’s: There isn’t really support for it like Linksys or Netgear. Their support is forum based. But I don’t care because I didn’t buy it for their support. I bought it to do so much more than a normal router.Notes: I am currently receiving tagged vlans as my internet into this Mikrotik RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN through a copper sfp. I then add my own networks into that router, perform traffic shaping with hotspot, filtering with the firewall and web proxy, and send my home network, guest network, and tv service across a single cat5 to a RB951G-2HND. I then use that device to split the tv service off to a set top box, bridge my home network and guest network into their own respective SSID’s, and create a bigger wireless “mesh” of my wifi at the house.I currently use the scripts for location awareness(where people are), link down notification’s, server down notification’s, and lots more. This is no ordinary rabbit.

Most powerful business class router at consumer price point, requires strong knowledge in networking technologiesThis is the most full featured, sub $200 router your money can buy. There’s absolutely no need to try and flash this with open-source firmware like OpenWRT or DD-wrt, as its base firmware, the RouterOS has almost every feature you could ever need. This is like a business class device packaged as a consumer device. I’ve been looking for this my whole life!I needed a device that was has at least 8 ports plus wifi, and this fit the bill. The Netgear and D-Link devices both had terrible ratings, but this one’s are spectacular. And those reviews are right. This is NOT a device for a network novice, however. While you can get by setting up the quick config, if you need to do advanced configurations, you’ll have a steep learning curve if you don’t already have a good background in network routing and switching devices. However, if you need a powerful business class device at a reasonable price, this is the best device out there. My only complaint is that the routerboard Mikrotik used on the inside has one bank of gigabit ports and one bank of fast ethernet ports. I would much prefer a routerboard that has only gigabit ports, but for my immediate needs, this device fits the bill. I can place all of my computers that need fast file transfers on the gigabit switch, and the slow network devices, like printers on the 10/100 ports.

Not difficult to set up – and signal strength like a boss!Don’t believe the warnings that this is too complicated for the average user to set up! If you just want to use it for a basic home network, it pretty much works right out of the box like any other router. A couple of the menus for setting up network IDs, passwords, etc., are named a little differently, but it’s nothing you can’t figure out in about 5 minutes. If you want to get into all kinds of advanced networking features, all that is there, and then some. The signal strength on this thing is incredible. Strong and clear as a bell. We have a fixed Internet access point out of the wall, and every router we’ve ever owned has had trouble reaching the far side of the house, including the supposedly high-end $200 models. This little marvel covers the entire house with no more than 0.5 Mbps loss of speed versus the hardwired connection. My phone and laptop can detect the network almost a sixth of a mile up the street, the limiting factor is that they can’t “shout back” from that distance. This is THE perfect wireless router if you live in a big house, have lots of walls and doors to contend with, or suffer from lots of interference. Hands-down the best I have ever owned.

Great entry into the wonderful world of networking!I have been spending lots of time researching what router to FINALLY buy to graduate from my lame ISP-rented router. At first, Mikrotik was intimidating. However, after starting my studies in Network+ and CCNA, I went for it. I’m glad I did. This router is powerful and full of features for the aspiring net admin or power user. I had an issue connecting to my VPN while using the router, but I’m sure that could’ve been figured out if I spent the time to fix it. That’s how this router works: If you run into a problem, Google is your friend. Most issues are online for you to troubleshoot yourself, and there is always a means to publish your questions online to a community of network wizards mostly willing to help (might have to send coffee or booze their way. Damn, sys admins sure love their booze!)Anyways, if you’re anxious about getting this because you’re not sure you can handle it but want to learn, buy it. Don’t mind taking down your network a few (many) times in the process? Buy it. Roll your eyes at the notion of asking for help or conducting independent research to troubleshoot computer problems? DO NOT BUY. Unless, of course, you’re a masochist.

it really is a great router! It has no trouble handling my 105/10 …Let me preface this review with the fact that I use to be a network engineer for a small wireless ISP and we used the Mikrotik RouterOS for all of our routing.Out of the box with no configuration you can plug your WAN ethernet into port 1 and any other network devices in 2-10 and it will work. If you want to change ANYTHING else you will need to use the web interface, Winbox, or SSH.If you are not willing to read documentation, read forum posts, and/or ask questions on forums, this is not the router for you. With all of this said, it really is a great router! It has no trouble handling my 105/10 connection from Comcast. Which is why I purchased this router in the first place. My Linksys router running DD-WRT capped out at about 50 Mbps on the download. For a little over a hundred dollars I doubled my download speed.I have a handful of ports forwarded for Foscam cameras, Plex, remoting into my PC, network storage, etc. All of that works really well. The wifi portion of the router is great. I have better signal throughout my home with just this device. Previously I had a router and a secondary access point to extend my wireless network.

Great router but comes with a design flawFeature wise, one could not expect anything better, but this particular model/revision has a design flaw. When the item arrived, I noticed a bump on the metal case near the antenna at the edge, on the back of the case. Initially, I thought it was something related to transportation. When I tried to put the antennas on the vertical position, the one on the edge was hard to move. I tried a bit more and heard a sound. I then opened the case to see what happened and the thin cable with the MMCX connector that connects the antenna to the radio had been broken.Immediately I understood the reason for the bump. The antenna near the edge sits right in front of the MMCX connector, in a way that there’s absolutely no room for it. The antenna moving piece will press into the MMCX connector and prevent the case from closing in such a way that it will create that bump. It’s clearly a project fault, one that caused the cable to break. From looking at pictures on the internet I can see that there are at least two versions of this router. One that has an internal power connector (you probably have to open the case to plug/unplug it) and another (the model that I received) that has a more handy external power connector. I don’t know if this issue affects both models or just the later one. What I have done so far to be able to use the unit was to disable the radio chain related to the bad antenna. If it wasn’t for this stupid design flaw, I’d give it five stars.

A beast at this price pointI have a DSL line and with my old router (Linksys WRT320N) I could get a max throughput of 850kb/sec. I figured this was the best I could get at my place. I replaced it with this router and was shocked to see the max throughout hit 1.6 – 1.7 M/sec. My old router was a bottleneckl!!!That said, this router is not user friendly. You can probably get it going via a basic configuration, but to utilize it fully, you need to dig deep. This is not a consumer grade router. I can imagine this being used in a work/business environment. But it this price point, it is so much better than those 120$+ priced consumer grade routers.Yes it has a LCD screen on top, but I think it is just one of those things that you won’t use after the device has been setup and placed out of site. I feel I will not need another router for the next 10 years.Support from Mikrotik has been awesome as well. I made a configuration error on my side which was slowing things down and they provided top-notch support via email when they didn’t have to (I didn’t go to the vendor, went straight to the manufacturer).

I have to admit that the hardware software combination of this product is amazing. There was a bit a of learning curve …As a CCIE with 15 years of experience, I have to admit that the hardware software combination of this product is amazing. There was a bit a of learning curve for me as some of the features are not a straightforward as it could be. I did have to read the manual to configure some of the features I needed. But seriously, I have had this box for over a year and it has been very stable.Initially I bought this as a very cheap wireless AP with 100/1000Mbps built in switch combo, and I am thinking about buying another one for my home network as the combination of features, speed and price cannot be beat.Is this better than a Cisco if price is not an option? From my professional perspective, no, but we’re talking about 1/10th the price!!!If you are a newbie, just use the “quick set” setup and don’t tinker too much with the settings as you really have to know what you are doing. The biggest frustration for me was the VLAN trunking setup where you could not just easily break out a VLAN on a specific port and mix and math Layer2 and Layer3 features.

As described. The Mikrotik router + AP combo is a phenomenally capable piece of hardware. It has so many parameters one could tweak that it puts commercial routers to shame. The hardware itself seems well built, and well contained in a solid metal case. Without the antennas, the box is actually quite small which allows for placement in tighter spaces and strange mounts.-1 star: While I am broadly familiar with networking, there are so many options, acronyms, and values, I don’t really know where to begin. There are a few preset options but even the presets aren’t explained at all. Combined with a dauntingly large set of documentation (availible online as a community Wiki), making any sort of changes past the defaults can quite literally force you to reset the router.-1 star: Any time I had more than ~10 clients connected to the wireless AP, a few clients would have terrible issues retaining a consistent connection. The AP would keep on dropping the connected devices left and right. I’m sure I could have spent some more time trying to figure out the correct settings but I simply did not have enough time to waste. The range on the wireless is also pretty terrible; it’s near equal to the range of the Asus RT-N12.I’m sure if I were more familiar with networking, I’d understand my issues better. However, I simply don’t have the time to spend on my home networking.

Amazing switch and router – 3X faster download speed compared to WRT54GLMikrotik Routerboard RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN Sfp Port plus 10 Port Ethernet is a amazing little switch and router. So many options the average network amin would not understand all of them. This increased the throughput of my network 3 fold compared to a Cisco Linksys WRT54GL. I have Comcast blast which is rated at 105 mbps download speed. With my very reliable WRT54GL (I still love it BTW) speedtest was showing around 36 Mbps. After replacing the WRT54GL with Microtik I am getting the full 105 Mbps speed. This is easy to setup. I found their online documentaion has few outdated screen shots. I never reached out to their customer support for help. I have been using this for past 7 weeks and it is pretty reliable so far. My only complaint on this one is the wireless is n. This would have been the ultimate router if it had ac. Please remember to login to the router and shutdown or reboot. Hotspot? DON’T BOTHER!!!I have been a big supporter of Mikrotik devices and told many people they are superior. However, I’m disappointed with this model. Why?I had and RB750 that worked flawlessly, but I wanted wireless and faster ports, so I ordered this model. Immediately, I had problems with the Hotspot setup. The darn thing has a nasty problem with SSL/HTTPS traffic which basically means the users cannot access HTTPS sites if they go through the hotspot. WTH?!??!?!? Does anyone realize that MANY sites are HTTPS now? Now, to be fair there are numerous sources of instruction about how to get it up working, but sadly I couldn’t the darn thing to work, and even if I did, it was clear from many forum posts that it didn’t work well. This is a deal breaker for any hotspot use.The second issue is the touch screen. It’s so inaccurate (touch) and buggy. I almost want to bash the thing! Each time I press an item, it either does not detect it or selects the wrong item. It’s nearly useless. There are some minor/moderate issues, such as the uplink only using SFP or GB port 1. Yep, you cannot put it on the 100mbps port, which makes sense for most home users that don’t have internet speeds that exceed 100mbps. Instead the gig port (ether1) get’s wasted. Also the GB ports don’t perform at full speed when all are in use. It acts as if all ports are sharing the total 1GB. Weird….Other than these issues, the router works great. Unfortunately, I have come to expect a certain level of quality from Mikrotik and this model DOES NOT deliver……sadly.

newbie or professional this router is for you!!I spent 3 minutes setting this router up for the first time. Its been running smoothly ever since. If you first look at the winbox software it may look daunting but breath and have patience. In most cases the quick set up method is best and then just editing the wireless to have an authentication for it is super simple. This router has loads of documentation to it and all you need to do is a simple Google search and some ready to change anything on it. Side note the IPv6 is not enabled by default simply opening the packages and enabling it will do. Any settings can be changed or messed with or tweaked. Any home user will probably only utilize 1/16th of this routers capability and the only downfall is it doesn’t do wireless AC but a simple 20-40$ Access Point will fix that problem right up! This router is definatally worth every penny and then some. Mikrotik has a habbit of handing you a fully capably router that comes with a virtual house attached… Lol

there is no “touch screen” on this modelthis is an old style model… not an old model. It takes a bit of configuration but I come from the same era of design. You should get onto their net and read how to configure. It has features that are absolutely needed… maybe a few more. Good model, and if you pay attention, easy to configure. Lots of features which you need to use.

If I had it to do over I would choose a different router.

It’s not difficult to useI have purchased this and was expecting a difficult setup based on the reviews. There’s something you should understand about this device. The default configuration is probably just as easy or easier than most any consumer wireless routers. It loads with a default configuration that configures a dhcp client to self-configure to most ISP’s and automatically routes traffic to the WAN. The wireless configuration takes minimal effort to secure it from the default configuration. It’s untrue that you should have advanced knowledge to use this device. If you wanted to learn about networking or setup more advanced functions (VLANs, VPN, hotspot, etc.) then all the functionality is sitting there and ready when you are. I would recommend to any consumer to buy this device over a typical Netgear or DLINK or whatever router because it performs better in all areas. Please note that I’ve only had the device for one week and will update this if things change.

That’s not terrible, but however my devices that are wired are …This routers signal strength is impressive. My iPhone picks it up nearly a 1/4 mile away. It reaches into every corner of my home. The wifi performance in terms of speed leaves something to be desired averaging at about 20Mbps. That’s not terrible, but however my devices that are wired are averaging about 115Mbps. So there is a noted difference. Occasionally a wifi connected device will get about 50Mbps. The initial setup was almost plug and play like. I did have to do some digging to learn how to setup WPA. It only took about five Minutes to find a Mikrotik document that was very clear about to set up a security profile and enable it for the wireless interface. If the wifi speeds were a bit higher I would’ve given this a 5 star rating.

This is pretty much my ultimate routerThis is pretty much my ultimate router, and it’s been running continuously for me since 2013.I have a complicated home setup with some machines on public ips and others going through NAT, a combination of wifi and gigabit ethernet networks across rooms. This thing has never let me down and has continued to amaze me with its ability to accomplish (albeit with some study of the documentation) pretty much anything I can think up.What really most impressed me though was when I went to check for firmware updates after the recent disclosure of the KRACK WPA vulnerability and saw that RouterOS had already updated with a patch more than a week before the announcement.Couldn’t be happier. I also have a mAP Lite, and the coordination between them couldn’t be easier / better.

Amazing deal, great support, great dealI have owned this router for over a year now. I got tired of being limited by random things with many other routers in this price range. I finally purchased a sonicwall for my home, and then because that was not fast enough for my cable modem, I ended up purchasing this instead of a new sonicwall. WOW, did I make the right decision.VPN has been solid, no issues at all. The support for the device is phenomenal, they already patched the zero day WPA hack. I can not say enough good things about this router! Could the gui be better? Sure. But the router is very solid, no resetting, no crashing. The software supports everything I want/need.This is a great price and a great router.

REALLY Impressed!Used to work with a number of different Cisco ASA appliances and I can definetly see how this Routerboard is not for beginners. From interface creation, to bridging, to firewall rules; you need some experience and understanding of network topology and methodology. The Wiki is helpful for sure but if you’re expecting something you can plug and play, look elsewhere.Absolutely LOVE my Mikrotik Routerboard RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN Router. Performance is excellent, wireless range and speed is very good for a 2.4Ghz WAP. Wish it came equip with a 5Ghz radio but oh well, maybe a future hardware version will have it.This blows ANY consumer router out of the water and rivals performance of many of the Cisco appliances I’ve used in my career.** UPDATE 7/14/2016 **I continue to have amazing performance and stability from the 6 of these I manage. 2 years later and I’m still impressed!

but the default configuration that it comes with works just great as isPros:Very powerful and versitile. This should be the go to home router for any IT pro. Plenty of knobs to turn, but the default configuration that it comes with works just great as is. Excellent wireless signal. RouterOS is a very powerful operating system that does a great job at what it does.Cons:This is not a typical consumer router. If you’re looking for something that can be setup with minimal knowledge of computer networking, then look for another device. That being said, typical home users are not the audience for this piece of hardware.Other thoughts:I did try using it as a SMB NAS using an external hard drive. It didn’t appreciate it very much and ended up kernel panicing. It might have been the hard drive I was trying to use, so I won’t fault it.

Look NO further. If you know what you’re doing or not, just buy this one.Is $100-200 within your budget and $700+ is not?Look NO further if you need to and want to control EVERY detail of a consumer priced router, this is your new toy. Solid throughout. Accepting and passing a ~290/~350 MBs input, DHCP to about 120 computers, VoIP phones, a handful of printers, this little one actually works well.1. Maybe someone told you to go find and buy this model? They were right (unless you need a cheap consumer version with “no” real control over the settings and you don’t mind your neighbor’s WiFi overlapping yours and bogging your speeds periodically).2. Small business owners, if #1 is too much/info/etc… then just buy this and plug it in. You’ll be happy!(Bought one for my home office too)

Excellent range, very powerful router with tons of features …Excellent range, very powerful router with tons of features (vlans, vpn, etc). The only complaints I have are that i wish it were more user friendly and that they would fix their openvpn client so it supports UDP mode, LZO encryption, TLS authentication and authentication without username/password (certificates only). I was a bit annoyed that I couldn’t have the router directly connect to PIA via openvpn and had to fallback to the much less secure option of PPTP. I have mine configured to route some IPs in my living room over a VPN so I can watch Netflix and Amazon Videos without stuttering and that works great. The rest of my network is routed straight out over my comcast connection. Excellent device.

Plug and play if you are using for minimal operation. I connected cable modem to Ethernet port one and it became the WAN, then connected to the MikroTik SSID and I was online. No security initially, so browse to http://192.168.88.1 to start the configuration. There are a lot of resources online including their wiki pages that detail several configuration scenarios. http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Wireless_SetupsTerminal access is powerful by access using telnet or SSH and configurations like Port forwarding http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Forwarding_a_port_to_an_internal_IP are easy to do once you know the commands. I upgraded from a Linksys WRT54GL with different firmware i.e. Tomato, DD-WRT that was only able to get 30-50mbps because the CPU could not handle much more. With this MikroTik I am getting 110-130mbps on my WAN connection.

Beats the regular Home Routers out there like Linksys, D-LinkVery well designed Router. Beats the regular Home Routers out there like Linksys, D-Link, Netgear by a wide margin. You just cannot beat the price and stability of RouterOS. You need to have some knowledge of networking to setup this thing. Look on YouTube and search for Mikrotik, you should be able to find a walkthrough setup of model R750 but for this router should work just fine. Lastly, I bought this Router to replace a Netgear R7000 that cost me $150 and had to re-boot it every 1 week of it being up 24/7. Now that I have this Router, I can proudly say that I have not had to re-boot it and running solid for 2 weeks straight with the Wireless AP setup also. Just a very solid product. I will very likely buy this companies new model RB3011 that is coming this year sometime. I rate this a 10 star product.

Stable, well built, 2.4ghz only, hard to configure.Great for 2.4ghz and has plenty of ports. Please not this is 2.4 only. The documentation is very poor and the quick setups didn’t work for me (ap with no dns) as the bridges weren’t setup. The tiny touch screen is good for rebooting but too “touchy” ffor much else as it doesn’t scroll very well.

Better options exist for both routing and wireless, but it does what it says on the tin and is extremely affordableThere are faster routers out there that are cheaper than this. Check out the

Ubiquiti EdgeMax EdgeRouter Lite ERLite-3 512MB Memory 3 Ethernet Ports Router

, a favorite of mine for its rock-solid stability (it’s aimed at internet service providers). Also note that I’m specifically not recommending the EdgeRouter X because it lacks hardware acceleration for routing, which will strongly hurt its performance. I do NOT recommend this or EdgeRouters for home users unless you know a pro who’s willing to configure it for you.Pros:Super, super feature rich (I’m a network admin and was still slightly overwhelmed by the UI)Useful GUIHandy (albeit clunky and tiny) LCD, if you’re into that kind of thingSFP port! Woohoo!5 Gigabit ethernet ports (my EdgeRouter Lite has only 3 ports) and 5 FastEthernet ports, for a total of 10 portsCons:2.4GHz WiFi is crowded, and this does NOT support 5GHz WiFiNo 802.11ac supportThroughput is limited to about 280Mb/s in either direction (I haven’t tested using both directions at once)5 FastEthernet ports (I guess this is better than not having those 5 additional ports?)

I gave up on a security gateway and choose to use Mikrotik products and it was the best decision I have ever madeI have been struggling with setting up my home network for years. I have about 30 IP devices and trying to find a firewall that works and does not slow my network down has been very hard. I gave up on a security gateway and choose to use Mikrotik products and it was the best decision I have ever made. I have full control over my network now using Mikrotik products. This combined with Graylog2, Security Onion and Open DNS I now can see everything on my network. The Mikrotik products where key to make all this work because all the open source gateways/firewall out there limit what you can do. The routerOS gave me full control to support all my logging needs. I am slowling replacing all my network swiches with Mikrotik products. The best part the hardware is cheap.

Rock solid expert router, great for experimentsThis has been a very stable, reliable part of my home network.Initial configuration is easy for the basic home wifi router usage, but if you want to do anything more, you’ll need a good knowledge of networking and a lot of reading through their help pages. The user forums do have a lot of great help and examples, especially necessary for the scripting language. The touchscreen is a cute feature, and is fairly configurable, buy you probably won’t use it after the first week unless you mount the router out in the open. The remote configuration management software is excellent. The only thing that could make this better is a 5Ghz wifi option.

Awesome and routerOS is goodThis little guy is awesome! I was honestly expecting it to be bigger when I got it, but I can’t complain about that. The physical setup was simple, wireless speeds are good. There’s definitely a bit of a learning curve with the software, but it’s nothing much a bit of intuition and/or YouTubing can’t fix. Do yourself a favor though and use the desktop application. All the guides involve that and not the web interface, which is good but missing some things for whatever reason.I set this up in an office to do 2 WLANs and 1 separate LAN off of an Ethernet port with port forwarding enabled (desktop app made port forwarding easy and web interface was frustrating for this). Once you learn the os, this guy is great

Setup was very easy, just set the proper country location after ticking …This router is fabulous. Do not fear it! Setup was very easy, just set the proper country location after ticking the wireless AP pre-config button! You can learn how to create firewall rules and make use of the advanced tools later.I have no idea what half of the stuff does in the interface. It has quick set capabilities and I can figure out whose eating my bandwidth, get a signal at the farthest points across 3 floors of my house, and see whose trying to hack me and block them with ease. I really don’t care beyond these points.IF I wanted to get creative, I can sniff traffic, setup guest hotspots, run a video conferencing unit, and a 1000 other things that are way above my head.I am using 1/10th of the power of this router and it was worth every penny!

Real bargain for the I/T tinkererVery impressed like the others here. Had the wireless secured and updated the OS in minutes. There is so much granular detail at hand to look at and research BEFORE adjusting but the manual is linked into the interface with winbox and a host of other features.Absolutely a bargain if you do not mind reading up on and learning a bit as that stands. I’m a retired systems administrator or semi retired and this is not a big deal. But also not a novice software interface either. Excellent design and cost effective router firewall. This has made the best firewall. Dropping anything that does not belong or that the inside did not request. All stealth. Just love this thing….7/9/16 Have it set to drop everything, Fantastic firewall. Really an understated company. Looking now at their big stuff.

Prosumer boundary device and access point at a budget price!Great value, reliability and feature set. Every limitation I’ve had with true consumer routers has been addressed by these, plus it transmits a full 1000mW and has reasonable gain antennas. The range alone is great for the price. Wired connections have no problem with 300/50 internet throughput, but the wireless throughput has topped out around 80 for me.* Works out of the box with great range* Highly configurable with great diagnostic tools* Have a lot of devices? No limit to the number of static or dynamic address assignments.* Good support from the wiki and forums* Export your config for backup or transfer* A variety of wireless bridging options. WDS was simple to setup and has been quite reliable.

Powerful, fun and can be used for SOHO. Beginner/intermediate level can configure using Winbox or WebUILike others have said, it’s very robust and has many features most will never use/understand.On the flip side, it can be configured fairly easily for basic SOHO use. It has a web interface, which is almost identical to their Winbox interface, that offers a QuickSet configuration. This QuickSet would suffice for those savvy enough to setup basic routers. Just note that once you change the default network 192.168.88.0/24, there are other settings that will need to changed as well e.g. DHCP, IP pool, DNS, addresses etc.I had a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk and it worked perfectly, but I wanted more features and granular control. This RB2011 did not disappoint but you do lose out on 5Ghz Wifi if you already have it.

Works REALLY well.Purchased this router based on a tech guy who use to work for me so I was pretty confident that it would work. And it did extremely well.Setup out of the box was straightforward and worked. The throughput was 3 times faster than the previous wireless router ( a Netgear which had come with the cable service). Doubled the range available to hook on wireless devices and kept the signal strength at the highest levels. Instructions are minimal yet going on line will get you a comprehensive manual that is understandable. Manages our internet based streaming services also exceptionally well. Has 5 gigabyte ports and 5 10/100’s. Simply put it is one of the best routers wireless routers I have used in the past 10 years.

I will expose the antenna in the final installation, but as a test, I was impressed. The setup is pretty simple for your basic installation, but if you want to go further, you need to have a new vocabulary and some patience.

Best Bang For Your Money. As an IT professional I have worked with a lot of enterprise grade equipment. I have not seen or heard of any other wireless router/switch with the features and capabilities this one has for the price. Many people have commented that this router is too complex for most folks -(IMHO) NOT TRUE!Yes this router has some capabilities which are best approached cautiously but if you are smart enough to operate the computers at home and at work you have (Again IMHO 🙂 ) enough skill to set it up quickly and easily for most common home or SOHO uses. Once you are initially set up you can use the RouterOS resources to delve into more complex features this router offers.

Excellent Router OS. Poor HardwareThe Router died 3yrs and 8 days after I purchased it.I love the router operating system on the Mikrotik. I like the ability to script procedures such as local DNS updating and blacklisting hosts. The queuing parameters allow me to prioritize my SIP packets and the voice quality on my Obi and Asterisk server are excellentI experimented with other routers using OpenWrt but the hardware and features native to the Mikrotik made it my preferred choice.Unfortunately having the router die after just 3 yrs and 8 days has left a bad impression. I have purchased another RB2011 because of its features and the desire not to have to rewrite my scripts for OpenWrt. If this one dies then I’ll have to look elsewhere for another solution.

Great product, lacking documentationThis is a great home/SOHO router, useful also for small cyber cafes. It provides great flexibility for management, and linux fans will rejoice as it has plenty of the features found in a robust distribution, albeit in a different cli format. The features it has plenty make it for a great deal in price. The only caveat is the documentation. I had to do a lot of digging to realize how things are made, the wiki is pretty good for somebody that has knowledge on how to use RouterOS, but it is quite poor for somebody new to the platform. Even so, this is a great deal!!!

WOW, what a powerful little router!I was looking for a router that provided a secure access area to key people and a way to provide open access to everyone else but restricted to explicit urls relevant to our organization. This router allowed us to do this by setting up a hotspot in addition to the main secured area. The hotspot has a walled garden that restricts access to the explicit urls you provide it. There are a ton of screens and scripting options that allow you to customize almost anything you want. This router is not your average simple home router, there is a learning curve, but Mikrotik has a great Wiki on virtually everything you need answers too and downloadable tools to help. We are very pleased with it and would recommend it.

It is absolutely loaded with features (most you will likely never use), runs rock solid, has a great case/design. I can not say enough good things about this unit. Now with all that being said, if you’re not comfortable with IT or setting up anything with a microcircuit in it then you may want to keep looking. This is not that sh*tty linksys/dlink/netgear that you’re likely used to at this point.

Finally found the router I was looking forMy super reliable and feature rich Snapgear was quickly closing in on it’s end of life. I work from home and needed a router that could do an IPSec tunnel into my main office (easy) and a PPTP tunnel into another office (not so easy). I went through four different VPN routers before finding this one. I think this may be even more capable than the Snapgear and it’s the cheapest VPN router I’ve found to date. I am super pleased with this purchase. As others have mentioned setup can be a bit daunting but once you get through it you’re done. If you need a super quick easy setup you might want to look elsewhere but you will be missing out on a great router.

Fantastic capability! As many other reviewers have mentioned, unless you want to stick with a basic setup or actually learn networking, Mikrotik is not for you. That being said, this thing is a fantastic piece of hardware! So powerful, so little money. This aint your ordinary consumer grade router. If you have a fear of getting technical as far as networking goes and want plug n play connectivity, I would recommend looking at a different brand of router. If you are a technical power user, this thing does it all. You can configure it up just as you need it. Supports all of the cool router acronyms, such as VLANS, OSPF, DHCP, BGP, etc… Even has an SFP cage if you want to connect to another network or device with fiber. If you are looking for a home or small business router that can handle the advanced tasks, this is where it’s at.

Even if you don’t feel like going that route, this router will cough up a functional “it just works” configuration in all of 5 minutes that will meet basic home networking needs. Best kept secret in the networking industryI was introduced to Mikrotik a couple years ago in my job (I am a network engineer). I have been very pleasantly surprised with how reliable, robust, and feature-rich they are, for a very attractive price. We’ve used these as CPE/SOHO routers, and also in business settings where QOS and VPN needs have to be factored in. These things are great. As others have noted, they are not user-friendly for the average Joe, but if you have some network and/or Linux savvy, you should be able to find your way around these with minimal frustration.

This has an excellent array of management features that no other manufacturer can touch at this price point. User interface is consistent across product lines. Wireless in this model has never dropped a connection and is highly stable and sensitive. And high power. Only drawback is that the antennas are permanently attached. They need to have connectors on them so I can change antennas when needed. Metal case also great.

Very feature-rich router.I did a bit of research on these and I figured I’d get one to see for myself how good it is. I was planning on replacing RouterOS with either DD-WRT or Linux, but that RouterOS grew on me and I’m really happy with it. I like the LCD screen for looking at my traffic graphs as well. If you are a bit of a power user, you’ll really like this one. If I were to dock any points off of it, I would take them off because of the blue LED (those things annoy me), but that’s a preference and I can work around that so no points docked for that.

Excelent all-in-one home router. In case anyone is wondering, you DO get the latest version RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN, which has PoE out on port 10 and the DC power supply port is external and not permanently attached. The unit is quite a bit smaller than the pictures would suggest, I replaced an RB450G plus external gigabit switch & AP with this one unit. Router OS is not so bad to configure with basic settings using version 6.7, and it’s nice to know I can configure this unit to do pretty much anything I could dream up.It would be a shame to drop $100 on a consumer brand router when you see what this thing can do!

With great power comes great complexity, perhaps a butchered version of the old adage, but very true. For those that know IPTABLES, acl and router/bridge and wireless configuration well, get this one. You will likely never need another. Good, powerful routerWhile it is not the easiest router to configure, it is extremely flexible and powerful at a software level. It took a bit of tinkering, but in mine ether6 is the WAN port since my broadband speed is less than 100MBit. I reserved the Gigabit ports for the LAN devices that are Gigabit. At the hardware level, I really love the 1000mW power, as that ensures coverage throughout the entire house. I have personally started recommending MikroTik routers to other family members.

It has features that usually are found only on high end routers and switches. Channel bonding was a nice surprise. The 1000 watt WiFi antennas work well but one of them would spin around very easily. I pulled the case of and found the glue had come unstuck.

Complex but worth the effortSo far this has outperformed my previous wireless setup and I’ll also acquired a VLAN aware router to offload some processing from my existing router. It has been said before, this is a complex router and the documentation is sparse. I had a chance to experiment with several items (upgrades, configuration management, VLANs [access ports/trunks/routing], logging, wireless portal, etc) before it went into service; I’d recommend it for anyone new to the device since I accidentally caused several outages in the controlled environment.

Great routerReally great router and firewall. Business grade router and has tons of features that can be configured for your specific needs. This can handle anything I throw at it. As a network engineer I can say this router is not for the average home user as it can be quite overwhelming to configure and navigate. I could not be more pleased with this product.

Yes, it does require some networking knowledge. But even for a home user, the defaults it is shipped with should work for most users. Great little box.

They have some great models and some not great models and in betweenI have used Mikrotik routers in situations from home to large enterprise multi site WAN and also used them for regional wireless service provider networks. They have some great models and some not great models and in between. I have deployed about a dozen of this model and I would say that this one falls in between. This model has a great price point but if you need business class reliability look to one of their higher end models.

Great buy for the money for networking engineersThis router is stable with improved range over my dlink dir655.I find that network throughput is also improved by about 20% as well. It is not intended for consumers but is definitely worth the additional complications for network engineering types. Consumers can use it as well provided they are prepared to get their fingernails dirty. So far, it’s the most stable router I’ve used among the small business routers. It also supports a broad array of network features.

Best purchase for home networking, everAfter setting up this beast for home use with some sophisticated QoS to catch and limit peer-to-peer traffic, I’m confident that there is nothing out there that comes close to the value and level of power and reliability that this thing can achieve for home use. Hands down the best purchase I’ve ever made for home networking. As everyone else says though; don’t expect it to be easy unless you are familiar with RouterOS.

Pretty and Worthless?…No! Just Worthless and a PITAI wrote a bad review when I first started using this wireless router because it kept needing to be power cycled to keep working properly. After reading all of the rave reviews from professional network engineers I thought I would retract my negative review and wait a few months and review it again. Well I have given this router all of the chances in the world and the bottom line is I find it to be unreliable. It constantly needs rebooting and I believe the rest of you are obsessed with your acceptance of the RB2011UiAS to the point that you would rather die than say anything bad about it. What good is a Swiss Army knife that is unreliable when you need it most. I don’t believe I have a defective unit, it is configured properly and I am tired of all the rave reviews saying the negative reviews are unjustified. Do not buy this for wireless use. Maybe it’s great for hard wired but wireless will have you calling it a PITA in no time at all.

Amazing feature set for the price! So far the only router that has the ability to do whatever task I throw at it in this price range. The only negative is no 5ghz wireless, however with the feature set available at this price this product cannot be beat. It expects you to know what you are doing for any of the advanced features, although the basic setup can get you up and running quickly…

Geek’s choiceIt’s the SOHO router for the routergeek in you. Setup is a breeze on the current firmware (not that it’s boomer-proof, but easy enough if you are comfortable clicking around a web UI.) And the advanced options are plentiful, though not as easy to get to as they would be in a simpler router. The LCD is a kind of pointless party trick, but the plethora of port options are nice to have available.

STOP, DON’T WASTE TIME AND MONEY – NO MANUAL – POOR QUALITY – HAD 2 – BOTH FAILED MISERABLYThis is my 2nd and last one. The first one died just past the warrantee period. So I ordered another and bought the protection plan. It arrived, would not bring up the admin screen. The documentation for this router is crap. No manual on the in’s and out’s of this paper weight. No matter how many times I tried to connect to this thing, access was denied. So I hooked it up to a 4th computer (laptop), and ran an Ethernet cable directly into the first port, then the 2nd port then the 3rd port and so on, until there were no more ports to try to connect to this nightlight. If you are considering this router, remember, you’ve been warned. Apparently the manufacturer has a poor QC department. I’d give it 0 stars or even minus stars. Do yourself a favor and look at other brands that have proved themselves as dependable. Don’t waste you money and time on this useless whatever it is.

If you are tired of buggy firmware and constantly resetting your router, then look at MikrotikRock solid and reliable, unlike almost every consumer router (D-Link, Linksys, etc.) which tend to have buggy firmware. The only thing is that Mikrotik gear is a bit more complicated to use for those without any networking experience. Great alternative to overpriced Cisco gear. If you need something just as reliable but less complicated, look at Apple Airport gear instead.

Good luck graphing interfaces with CactiStrange issues with queues that cause inexplicable congestion. Sometimes need to be restarted because wireless clients experience very slow transfer rates. Good luck graphing interfaces with Cacti, the templates seem to be abandonware created by a 3rd party. Support is almost non-existent. Mikrotik seems to lean heavily on the community to write scripts for functions like QoS, and for creating methods of procedure. Mikrotik’s operating system has a daunting number of options, and once you get used to the CLI, it seems powerful, but the aforementioned issues can’t be ignored. If you need something for your home or small business network, skip Mikrotik. You’re better off buying an Asus router or something that accepts DD-WRT/Tomato.

Difficult Configuration – not for beginners.I received the router and fired it up. Maybe I’m getting old, but the quick start guide is in extra-extra-extra small font (looks like a power warning label) and it took a magnifying glass to get the default IP address, user/password. The configuration software is not very intuitive, so it took a couple of hard resets to get a solid configuration. I spent a lot more time on the configuration than I thought I would need and I haven’t even gotten to the hard stuff yet.

Too temperamental.I have had this product for 7 months and it has not been very good. For what ever reason the device does not like to me resetting it back to factory defaults so in the last 2 monthes it has borked. The OS on the Mikrotik RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN seams to be unstable. The first time it would get stuck on the loading kernel screen and I managed to fix it with the Netinstall tool. This is the second time this happened but now the router will boot, will not provide a default gateway address, and the reset button has stopped working since this has happened so I can not use the Netinstall tool.I do not recommend buying this devise may be it fills a spot somewhere bot not me. It is highly customization but my stuff needs to work and not brake as soon as I try changing things.

Experts onlySet-up on this is a **ther-**ving **tch. After I fought it to a standstill and set it up, I found spewing packets arbitrarily without any justification I could find. I’m sure a network expert can make these dance, but it’s a non-starter for me… while I’m not an expert, I’m a pretty good amateur *nix sysadmin with more than a decade of experience. Do not buy this if you’re not extremely well-versed in networking arcana.

This is advertised as being a gigabit router, sadly – it’s not. This is advertised as having 5 gbps ports, and 5 100mbps ports. What they fail to mention is that the 5 “gbps” ports all share the 1000mbps – so you really only get 1000/5 = 200mbps per port.

Excellent Router. Definitely NOT for the beginner! This little red wonder leaves consumer grade routers in the dust. It’s worth it just for the wi-fi range alone. Places in the house where regular routers could not reach show a strong signal with this one, strong enough that I went from zero signal to a signal strong enough to stream HD movies through my Roku. There are literally hundreds of settings in RouterOS that allow you to tweak every conceivable aspect of the router’s hardware, performance and security. The level of granularity is mind-boggling. And that’s where I must caution that this router is not for the beginner or faint of heart. You MUST have at least an intermediate level of understanding of networking principles and jargon, or you will likely be completely bewildered by this router. Out of the box, it comes with instructions on which ports to connect the wires to, the router’s default IP address and logon, and that’s it. There are a lot of settings that need to be configured in RouterOS before you can even start using it as a home router (E.g. the gigabit ports have to be configured to actually act like a switch, as this feature is not enabled by default).Fortunately, the graphical interface for RouterOS is a life saver for first time users. It has a “Quick Set” feature that allows you to select the router’s main function, such as a “Home AP”, and it will take care of configuring all the hardware settings in RouterOS to make it perform as such, and it also brings up a config screen for things like LAN IP, DHCP address pool, Wireless security, etc. that should be familiar to users of consumer grade routers. It’s a nice way to get some basic functionality up and running with no hassles, and saved me hours of reading through manuals before I could even get online!Overall, this is a very powerful router that is probably way more than what the average home user would ever need; but if you are a network professional by day, a heavy power-user, or dedicated hobbyist looking for something above and beyond the consumer grade stuff carried by the Big Box retailers, then this is the router for you.

Extremely capable, if you know what you’re doing.I had never heard of Mikrotik before a casual mention of their name on a technology blog I frequent. I’m glad I read the comments on that article. I think it was about one of Netgear’s ridiculously expensive high-end routers. Simply put, this is better in almost every way, and for one third of the cost. There is one big catch, though: Mikrotik expects you to know what you’re doing. This is not a router for technophobes or the technologically challenged. Router OS (Mikrotik’s own creation, and what this router runs on) is not user-friendly by any measurement. There are no graphics here, no setup wizards (with one exception for the very basic initial setup), and little in the way of help outside of Mikrotik’s wiki and support forum. If you know what you’re getting into, though, this is one heck of a powerful router and access point. Especially when you consider the price. Router OS is extremely capable, incredibly fast and responsive. Few routers I’ve worked with respond as immediately as Mikrotik’s. When I click the apply button, the setting is applied, instantly. I’ve never owned a router that operates that quickly. There are far too many features and options to mention in one review, but there are a few things I thought should be mentioned. First, the WiFi access point is 2.4 GHz, dual chain. There’s no 5 GHz band here, if that’s important to you. The first five ports are 1 Gb, and the second set are 100 Mb. Again, not a huge deal if you’re like me and just plugged in older devices on those ports, or devices that don’t need a full gigabit (like a printer). The LCD is nice, but really kind of useless for normal operation. Lastly, the initial settings are somewhat conservative. A couple worth mentioning: the second chain of the WiFi AP is off by default (turn it on for 300 Mbps support), and the Gb ports are placed on the software bridge by default (moving them over to the hardware switch speeds them up quite a bit, at the expense of less data flow control). Last but not least, the metal chassis is very nice, and feels quite sturdy (unlike every other plastic router out there). If you’re a network engineer, very technically inclined, or willing to learn, then Mikrotik’s RB2011 is worth a consideration. It’s very much a DIY router, though. If you want things like USB attached storage for NAS support, or a web-based VPN or remote file access, you’re not going to find it here. There are some options that help to enable these things (and there are PPTP/L2TP servers), but Mikrotik expects you’ll likely have a server attached to provide those roles. If that sounds like you, then I think you’ll be very happy with this router. So far mine has been running for about a month without a single interruption in service.

AdministratorI have one of these routers. 🙂 I searched a long time to find a router with the features this one has. It really is a geek’s router. It is quite a bit more bang for the buck than Netgear, Linksys, D-Link routers that cost 20% more. Additionally, there is documenation on-line. At the on-line site, there is well over 600 PDF pages, i.e. more than you ever wanted to know. Some vendors offer a wall mount for the router & runs around $10. This guy is a no-brainer for me when I want to buy another router.——————My original review, above, was submitted May 8, 2013. It is now November 26, 2015. The router has worked very well until 2 days ago. I had learned, though, that it needs to be rebooted from time to time just to clear some of its memory. I was rebooting it about once a month. 2 days ago, I manually installed an OS upgrade. I did it manually because the router was not automatically doing it even though I had an option selected for automatic upgrades. In any case, once the upgrade installed, the router simply quit working. The upgrade eliminated all communication with the router. The Reset had no effect. So far, I have only partially resurrected the router based on guidance fromhttp://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=77999 That topic seems to indicate that OS upgrades often turn the router into a brick. Hence, before you upgrade be certain you have a good configuration file saved. Mikrotik’s support is mainly via the forum unless you pay for the support or your router’s purchase is less than 30 days old. At this point, I am *not* a happy camper.

This is a little beast!I’ve seen many of you guys mentioned how easy or how hard is to configure this device. Of course it is always great if a router has good and responsive configuration tool, and I must say that this device has it, but another thing is how it performs! Most important thing in routers is stability! You don’t have to periodically restart it, and this goes even bad if you for example want to access your home network from outside world and there’s no one to do it for you. This device don’t even need it but IS CAPABLE to do whatever you want when it detects that there’s no connection – Restart WAN interface, restart itself, call your ISP and tell them that they suck.I think if you’re not a pro in network, anyway it’s better to get a good router with complicated configuration mechanism and ask someone to help you, than a bad router with beautiful, shiny screens with funny software limitations. One of my older routers had ability to create just 10 port forwarding rules. Why only 10? nobody knows. I wanted to access my NAS which requires at least 20 ports to be forwarded. You’re buying a rock solid router and after some time you discover that unable to complete so basic task.Well, this device can do everything in every single aspect of network environment, without a doubt, best!I recommend it to everyone.Good luck

Completely happy with itI bought this to replace a dying DLink. I also wanted the ability to add a second subnet for a test lab environment at home. While not for the faint of heart, there is lots of help in their forums.Using WinBox and the Quick Set configuration I was able to customize my MAC address and get online fairly quickly. I did use the new default subnet internally (192.168.88.x). Took me about an hour to figure out how to add and confgure a second subnet by reading their manuals and forum postings. The web configuration page looks like the WinBox tool. Updating it is easy and half the time doesn’t require a reboot. RouterOS is constantly updated.I’d recommend for anyone that can be patient and is technically inclined and not happy with the various issues regarding default passwords and such that other venders have had in the last year or so.

Competes with top tier Cisco equipment at fraction of the costUse this as my core at home, but can be used as a core for smaller business trying to not spend an arm and a leg with name brands such as Cisco etc. This router is solid as a rock, with ridiculously strong/far wireless range. Features are more than you could ever ask for, however, the learning curve on this product is steeper than your average plug and play wireless router. You will need to use the wiki and actually spend time learning RouterOS in order to fully utilize this board’s features. With some initiative it shouldn’t be any problem for most tech savy users and for the most part the board itself is easy enough to set up with a little curiosity and drive. Will never go back to typical off-the-shelf products after using this.

It has basically every feature you could want: OpenVPN, IPsec/L2TP, IPv6, DNS (caching, static entries), DHCP, scripting, DDNS, etc. It even does big-boy routing stuff like BGP and such. Absolutely recommended, although you may want to look at Mikrotik’s other offerings (the CRS models in particular) if you want more GigE ports.Only catch: This is not a simple product. You need to know basic level networking to make it work properly.

Incomplete documentaiton, key features for latest version has no consistent documentationI used the non-wireless version of this hardware. The hardware itself is very nice, but it’s obvious the company is more interested in providing training seminars than providing real documentation. The “documentation” consists of a wiki that mostly applies to v3, v4, and v5 of the product, but this ships with v6. Key documentation such as queues, and system architecture are completely missing for v6. The company does not provide support if you bought it from a reseller, so good luck using a product that doesn’t even have documentation. The forums are full of posts never answered due to bugs in the software, and I refuse to waste my time on something that should be in the documentation or crap that should have been caught in testing.I would only buy this if you already have found a script online that you know will work for your network AND if you know it works with the latest version of their OS. That is a big if, most of the online documentation is for the older version. Then what are you going to do when security updates are for v7 of the OS and your script only works with the now v6?This company really needs to look around and see their days are numbered if they don’t provide organised and consistent documentation. If you are interested in being a network engineering look into pfsense. If you just want a nice SOHO router hopefully one will be able to find an something based on OpenWRT, tomato, VyOS or other software with real documentation for your needs. There are quite a few available now, and even a few in the works designed to only use opensource software without any modifications from the hardware company. You will be avoiding lots of headaches in the long run if you find equipment with proper documentation.

Unbelievable router, unbelievable price!!!!!!!!Unbelievable router. So flexible, so awesome. I still can’t believe all the things that it can do for something priced the same as a regular consumer grade router. And, there is a very big, active community where you can find all kinds of tweaks, scripts, etc… so you can get it to do exactly what you need it to do, without spending time figuring it out yourself if you don’t want to.This router has features that are usually seen in heavy duty data center hardware. Incredible. As most people say, definitely not for beginners though.

Very robust wireless router with plenty of ports. Some say its harder to set up than your usual Linksys, Acer, Wal-mart router etc. This is true. If your not good with routers and don’t need metric scat loads of extra functionality, I would stay away from this. If you do need more, then you should check out this beast of a router. Great price. Great wireless range. More ports. More functionality. Small form factor. Plenty of online documentation to help you get it set up. Several video tutorials as well. You may want to watch those videos to see if you would be comfortable with this router.

Great router, great price, learning curve. Not your typical SoHo router. If you aren’t familiar with networking, you will be doing some searching on the internet to figure stuff out. Having said that, the router comes pre-configured where your WAN port is ether1 and everything else is a switchport. This is a great router with a ton of features.

Very annoying. The person I borrowed it from has the …I borrowed this routerboard from a friend before buying it. It turned out to be very hard to configure and when I got it eventually configured the signal was constantly dropping, and it was doing it in a vary sporadic way. Very annoying. The person I borrowed it from has the same problems with it.

Do not buy!I want to make a long story short so I do not bore you folks. I will say this is by far the worst router I have ever purchased! Out of the box there was packet loss and high ping times. The POE port did not work.. I am an electronics engineer/network engineer. I also worked on and designed Motorola and Juniper systems as well. I have been setting up networks for fortune 500 companies since 97. Mikrotik has made it very clear that they will not stand behind their product. I have been fighting them for an RMA number for the last couple months, Do not buy from them!!! Brady

I love Mikrotik productsMikrotik products are great and very cost effective. If your just looking for basic setup it is easy. These products are very customizable and thus can become very complicated to program. The range can be from a basic switch to a very complex router depending on configuration. I have used Mikrotik for 8 years now. Very robust and constant product development.

Great RouterThis router is great but not so easy to set up. I got this about 12 years ago and it is still working like a champ. I would advise that if you are thinking about getting this router make sure to read the setup instructions available online first. That being said, once it is setup it will work great.

Powerful and Cheap! This took me a few hours to adjust to the RouterOS, the web interface, and ALL the intricate detail that you get with this machine! I now feel like all my previous routers were holding me back! The inclusion of the SFP+ Port is a great include for isolating my high end audio system. Thanks MicroTik!

Wifi drop out and terrible technical supportBought this router so I could have a multiple wireless SSIDs that are firewalled from eachother in order to separate smart devices from computers phones for data security. That setup wasn’t too difficult. Then the wireless consistantly dropped while in use. Any streaming caused wireless to drop. The signal distance was also poor.MikroTik customer support is virtually nonexistent and blamed my network for the problem. Every solution they provided actually made the issue worse.I ended up replacing it with a Netgear Blackhawk router that has worked flawlessly for my whole house without any network signal drops.

Unbelievable number of features in a small boxI’ve been in IT for a couple decades now, and I will say that I’ve never seen such features packed into such a small inexpensive router. I’ve only had it a week or so and am still going through all the features available. I must say this is more flexible than some “major” brand devices (that may come in a teal color only) that cost five times as much.I’m finding the RouterOS very flexible and easy to learn, the user interface doesn’t appear too intuitive at first. But I’ve adapted pretty quickly. I would really prefer to use their CLI, but it’s going to take awhile to adapt to it.I bought this to replace an old dying WRT-54G, and there is NO comparison. This blows it way out of the water! The only drawback (which is quite minor to me) is that there is no 5GHz wireless band. I am using it in a home lab, so that is not an issue with me.You can do port knocking, set up span ports (port mirroring), create VLANs, route BGP, set up advanced routing schemes, perform layer 7 firewalling, and sooooo many other features that pro-level high priced routers/switches can do. I highly recommend that if you now are considering buying this, that you just do it!There is a quick setup screen for those that don’t want advanced functionality. To initially set up and get working, literally took me less than five minutes. The quick setup screen is self-explanatory to anyone that has set up a home router previously. There are also some good tutorial videos on YouTube for those that need it. (Fair warning: the company’s wiki is all command line examples and tutorials so if you are not a command line warrior, YouTube is the better option)

My quest for a powerful router has finally ended! What an awesome router! With the burgeoning number of phones, tablets and laptops at home and with a fairly large family at home, it’s been really difficult for me to keep track of the bandwidth hogs on my network. Earlier I used Tomato on an Asus RTN12 for this purpose, but it just wasn’t stable enough and there was no persistent storage (no USB port and too little free space om Flash/NAND).With the RB2011UiAS plus a few simple queues and static DHCP leases, DL/UL consumption is recorded for each individual device and I can see the trends on an hourly/daily/weekly/monthly/yearly basis. Based on this, each device is being throttled independently :-)I’ve also enabled transparent proxy (with generous caching configured on a USB memory stick) on the Mikrotik router to reduce internet bandwidth usage and without having to configure each and every device with the proxy details.Wi-Fi signal strength is awesome and covers the entire house (G+2).The LCD has been configured to show PPPoE bandwidth graph always. I’m currently trying to get the router to beep differently whenever certain devices arrive on and leave the Wi-Fi network ;-)The 224 unique IP address that I have recorded attempting to hack my router via Telnet, SSH, Web and HTTP (28,000 attempts over the past two and a half days, yeah that right no typos here!) have been merrily sent to the tarpit via a few simple firewall rules. Maybe I’ll flood ping them back with a script if I’m bored ;-)… and I’ve just scratched the surface. If there is a con (not really so if you’re a networking expert), it’s that simple things can require quite a iut of head-scratching and googling to get to work. But once you hit the forums and read the Wiki, you’ll get it working soon enough.

Some awesome Jamaican dude (TKSJa) made a full series on how-to …This thing rocks the pants off anything else, including fancy stuff that costs twice as much!I used this to replace my “Dark Knight” and it completely blows anything I have seen out of the water. Yes, they are a bit harder to configure, you need knowledge of networking basics but, not only is learning that stuff totally worth it, it is also not that hard. Some awesome Jamaican dude (TKSJa) made a full series on how-to manage these little beasts… all it took for me was to watch a few of his vids to learn what I needed… I had the whole thing set up (as I wanted, internal wifi network with access to my servers, guest wifi on separate isolated vlan, independent dhcp servers for each network, static ips for wired machines, etc) in 45 minutes.I am extremely happy to have found Mikrotik while researching what to replace my stupid router with… I was about to pull the trigger with Ubiquiti until some comments pointed me here… Ubiquiti is all fine but Mikrotik is like Ubiquiti on steroids while riding a roller coaster!

Insane functionality at an insanely low price.Great router for the price. Has Gigabit, SFP, and PoE in a $150 router! The functionality is huge as well. I went through 2 Asus AC3200’s that were more than twice as expensive in one year. This was my replacement and I’ll never go back.

Works well, looks great, costs lessWe’ve only been using this for the last couple of weeks now. The set up was smoother than previous versions and the performance seems to be great. We’re getting over 250Mbps up/down on our Fibre connection and so far it hasn’t missed a beat.

No tira para 300 megas o masEl procesador del router tira poco y te obliga a apagar el lcd para ganar recursos en caso de 300 megas, que fluctuan como si de una adsl se tratara… no recomendado para enrutar mas de 150 megas..
