Beware: Not intuitive at all. Don’t get unless you’re a Network Engineer (I am).Was looking to upgrade from my old Linksys home router which was getting older. I wanted something with GB interfaces with no WIFI…Just a router. This Mikrotik router on paper looked good. I purchased this and during install numerous roadblocks occurred. My laptop was unable to get a DHCP address from the router to begin with. I needed to set it to an address in the default network in order to continue configuration. Monkeyed around with all the settings and was still unable to obtain a DHCP address. As an experiment I plugged in my old Linksys to one of the ports and did get a DHCP address. Moving forward I plugged the WAN interface of the Mikrotik into my Comcast router. No DHCP address received. I had to reset the Comcast router to release the ARP mapping. It worked, but I still couldn’t get outbound access. Falling back, I returned to my Linksys plugged it in to the Comcast router again, reset the ARP table and all was well again. As a further experiment, I plugged the Mikrotik into my Linksys and it got a DHCP address. I plugged my laptop back into the bridge port and did get a DHCP address and was able to communicate out. Long story short, this was just trying to install with the default configuration. I played around with various settings and tried utilizing the different bells and whistles on it and I was impressed…there is a lot of things that one can do and the reporting features are great, but you may want to see if Mikrotik has some certification courses to take on their OS. My Cisco, Palo Alto and Juniper certs and the training that came with it were no help. This is definitely NOT for someone who wants to do more than just use the default settings unless they like a challenge.

One of the Best Routers AvailableThis is one of the best routers on the market. I love the feature set of this router and for the price it can not be touched. The 10 ports with 5 Gigabit and 5 10/100 is great. I use the 10/100 ports for this like printers/alarms/streaming devices that don’t have Gigabit ports/etc… then use the 5 Gigabit ports for devices like computers with Gigabit cards/WiFi access points/etc… This unit doesn’t have WiFi built in and I think that is great. You can hide this away in any part of the house and then use another product such as a Ubiquiti UniFi AP for the wireless system. These two devices together are going to give you more power than a typical router and better performance as well. And all for around the same cost of a good router. One thing to note is that Mikrotik is not a typical plug and play router with an easy setup menu/GUI like other typical off the self routers. There is a learning curve and if you are not tech savvy or willing to put in some time to learn it then I would stay away from it because you will more than likely get frustrated and not get it setup properly. But if you do get it setup properly it is a powerful and reliable router that is well worth the price.

A very powerful router in small and inexpensive packageI’ve had this running in my attic for a few months now with no issues whatsoever. I’m impressed with the functionality of this unit. It can do just about anything you can imagine. It was easy to install and configure. It’s completely quiet (no fan) yet stays cool. Recommended.Update 06/13/20: I’m on Amazon contemplating buying a second one to have on hand just in case the original were to fail, and see that its price has gone up a whopping $1 in the past year. It’s really a great value. I just noticed that it’s celebrated its one year anniversary as my primary router (connected directly to the cable modem). It’s continued to work flawlessly even tho’ I have it up in my hot attic and drive quite a lot of traffic through it. Again, highly recommended.

Seems like every time I order this 1 out of 4 have something wrong with themWe install and support these every month. It is a very reliable and trouble free firewall once you get one that is not broken. This one had a bad port on it. I had to send it back. Amazon replaced it with another one. I am waiting for it now.

Finally, a great consumer grade routerThis product is not for the casual user who needs a plug-n-play solution, or one with a simply setup wizard. However, for the seasoned IT professional, this is a dream come true product. Aside from the excellent performance (far better than any other device in its class), the router is a completely configurable device. Ever find yourself, while setting up one of those other consumer grade routers, “If only I could….”. Well, this is the answer.I have been setting up and configuring high end routers and switches since the early 90’s and was not looking forward to dealing with the consumer grade junk available on the market. This product made me smile when I got the first look at the interface and configuration options. Then the performance was just the icing on the cake.

Has excellent free utilities such as btool to monitor throughput at …Wasn’t nearly as difficult to set up as anticipated. For most SOHO uses, this works out of the box as a simple router. Has excellent free utilities such as btool to monitor throughput at various points (used to test Powerlink adapters most recently) with cross-platform support. While an excellent home router, it’s fully prepared for life in a small business’ server room, too, with everything (and far more, for the price) you’d expect out a commercial-tier router. If using at home, I’d suggest spending slightly more on the model with wireless unless you have a wireless router you’re already very pleased with.

Hard to configure but worth it.This is an amazing router and a rare find. It’s very hard to find a plain old 8+ port router that doesn’t include wifi and still performs well (See my reviews of other routers I’ve had to replace). With this unit I have all my internal IPs configured with reserved addresses where I need them, wifi access points plugged in, 100Mbps downloads and it didn’t break my budget. The thing is hard to configure at first but you get used to it.

the power over Ethernet port listed here doesn’t really have …the power over Ethernet port listed here doesn’t really have the strength to power anything substantial. It wouldn’t power my IP camera, phone or wireless access point but a regular Poe injector would, even after going into the command line interface and forcing POE to be enabled. Also the POE OUT port is not gigabit. Other than that this thing was solid.

Finally, a reliable router!!Works very well and didn’t require configuration out of the box other than username and password. I wish the PoE port wasn’t also the WAN port. My set up is Actiontec modem, this router, and Ubiquiti AP Pro for wireless. I got fed up with network issues and decided to go with equipment good enough for business and so far zero issues.

Extremely powerful productThis and all of the Mikrotik products I have used are an extreme deal! The power contained in their products for the price blows away any other brand or model that I have used. The UI could use some tweaks, as it’s a little intimidating at first. Not the friendly GUI of a Cisco or Linksys system, however, after a little help from a networking pal and a little time, it was much easier to navigate and unlock the power.

Works great, easy swap outThis replaced an older Linksys router. Internet speed tests went up 5mbs with the Mikrotik as compared to the Linksys. Works great, easy swap out. The only change needed was to get the new IP address for my network printer and place that into Windows 8 printer settings. Nice to now have Gigabit connections for the home network.

Works well – but it’s too comlex for me.I read the reviews that warned that configuring this was very complex. But I’m a nerd so I thought I’d be fine. Nope. I struggled to get it setup and gave up.PROS: speed is excellent. Solidly built.CONS: Hard to setup. Tough to get it to cooperate with connected wireless router on same subnet.

Best Enterprise level Router / Firewall available on the market …Best Enterprise level Router / Firewall available on the market today. Requires some prior knowledge of MikroTik RouterOS in order to fully utilize the capabilities, but once you learn it the sky is the limit. MikroTik provides some of the highest powered routers available routing the world today.
