I saw what I was doing wrong and was able to write three more just like it, for other IP addressesYou get a lot for your money with this little router. It has all the features of an “enterprise” grade router, at a price comperable to a low-end “SOHO” 10/100 switch of the same number of ports. You can’t even buy the software license level installed on this thing for their higher-end routers for this price!I bought it for my home, to replace a Cisco ASA5505 behind a Twowire / Pace 3800HGV-B Uverse modem / “router”, where I will be running my own Internet domain servers. I could not get the NATing through the ASA to work right with this Uverse modem. I’m stuck with the Uverse modem, and anyone who has worked with them to enable inbound connections to a server knows what a pain they are. The ASA simply would not enable more than one “public” IP address that would work with the modem.I have a co-worker who has been using Microtik RouterBoard products at home for years. After I had some initial trouble getting NAT to work right (hint: forget everything you learned doing NAT on a Cisco product: it’s all backwards) he sent me a copy of his main router config (sanitized to remove passwords). I copied his main NAT statement, adjusted for my IPs and BANG! It works. Once I saw how that statement looks in the web GUI, I saw what I was doing wrong and was able to write three more just like it, for other IP addresses. They all work perfectly. Now I can copy my data down from my existing hosted servers and move my domain to my home servers and stop paying for hosting. (Still need to find a solution for outbound mail though…)

Diamond in the RoughNOTE: This is a wired router. It does not project WiFi; you must use an ethernet cable to connect to it. If you need WiFi, your best option is to find a different router, like the RB952Ui-5ac2nD or the RB941-2nD-TC.I honestly do not understand how they keep the price so low. I spent a while looking for routers, and this was the best deal I could find by a long shot. I was skeptical at first, but it really is as good as everyone is saying. This little thing can do just about anything you want plus 100 more things.You do not need to be an expert to use this, but if you are one, you will love it. Basic setup is just as easy as it is with other routers; I just plugged it in and it started working (automatic IP, firewall, DHCP, etc.). Advanced setup like routing and pools is more difficult. However, I’m not a networking expert and still figured out how to turn the router into a free, personal L2TP VPN, so the interface is still user-friendly, just tailored to people who want to tell the router exactly what to do. You can have full control over nearly everything it does.Support is awesome with Mikrotik. They have a huge wiki and a helpful community.UPDATEThis thing is a beast (a good beast). After using it daily for the past 16 months, I still haven’t needed to reboot it. Not once. It keeps on keeping on like a champ.

If the device would stay in bridge mode, I’d give it 5 stars.Update: Upgrading to the release-candidate resolved my issues. Updating from 3 to four stars.It’s equally nice and annoying a DHCP relay has to be setup as well (even easy mode in RC release won’t do it for you).Finding that updates can’t be installed offline through the UI amongst other nuances is why I can’t give this product 5 stars.This product is great, I can imagine software updates will fix all the issues soon.

This is a great little wired only ethernet router … but pass if you are not knowledgeable in networking …This is a great little wired only ethernet router … but pass if you are not knowledgeable in networking or have a network admin friend to help you.I bought this to replace an old Pentium 4 (yes P4) running a custom Linux firewall distribution. The old machine had a hardware failure, so I need something in the interim to replace it. I already use a Mikrotik wireless access point, so I figure it was a safe bet for the price. In a word, it’s rock solid, it works, and I don’t plan on replacing it. It only has 10/100 wired ethernet ports, which is fine in my scenario, but you may want to get the Mikrotik hEX (non – lite) version if you need 10/100/1000 ports.

This router appears to have as much functionality as similar …This router appears to have as much functionality as similar routers that cost hundreds of times as much as this one does. I can set up IPSec VPN tunnels with this thing. It can do traffic generation for testing. You can insert PCAP captures and it will feed them on to your network. You can modify the MTU’s of all the interfaces. It can send text messages… I didn’t even know that was possible. It can do some security testing – ping floods, IP half scans. It can send emails. I have yet to figure out what it CAN’T do. I came back after using the restroom and it had made me a cup of coffee. Seriously. This router is NOT for novices. If it lasts for a while, I am going to buy several more of them.

Good price and very versatileThis router is small but very versatile and offers an overwhelming amount of settings. I bought it especially to create several VLANS and must admit that I thought this would be easier. But I had little detailed knowledge of how to program a router for more complex tasks and did not have the time to study it, so I hired someone over the internet to do this for me remotely. It works perfectly and I am very happy with this little router.

For those of you that don’t know much about this …For those of you that don’t know much about this little router it is an incredible device that will do everything you ever wanted to although it requires a very tech savvy person to configure. This can do a plug-and-play setup for a simple use, but it is designed more for the heavy user that wants to be able to customize 99% of the device. Most options are accessible through the GUI but a lot are accessible through the telnet console for example it will work as a load balancing multi wan device but you must set it up through the command line.

For simple uses, it’s very plug-and-play and works great out of the box with minimal configuration. For anyone who wants to do further configuring, the option is certainly there. This is carrier-grade hardware and the configuration interface clearly echoes that. This can be used for literally any networking application you’d like and the options are nothing if not extensive. Awesome piece of hardware all in all.

Great cheap router for techiesThis is a really great product for the price, but it should be noted that it’s PoE only in that it can be powered by an ethernet connection; unless I’m missing something, it does not appear to be able to power another device via PoE. RouterOS (the on-board operating system) offers many of the features of a far more expensive product for those who understand networking, and is configurable via command line (via ssh) or a surprisingly good web interface.

Great little router!I now have two of there and they are wonderful. FAR more capability then the consumer grade routers that they replaced (I replaced 5 consumer routers with two of these). There is a bit of a learning curve to get the firewall rules to do what you want, but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy.

Not for the non techie variety as they are not super easy to setup if you have no prior experience with Mikrotik. AVOID THIS ROUTER!!!!!Did not even last a month and Amazon return window lapsed. $40 wasted on a highly over complicated and hard to use router that lasted a whole 28 days. During that time I had nothing but problems out of it. Constant disconnects, random websites blocked, nearly ever site requiring a recaptcha over and over because the router was spamming requests constantly. Worse router ever!

Limited by the ethernet ports, of all things…Beware that this router only has 100 Mbps ports, which is not really appropriate as internet speeds are going up. Get the newer 1 Gbps (1,000 Mbps) version instead:Â

Instant perfect connection, able to use right away!Meets all my needs and more. After reading the reviews, I was a little Leary about the setup. So I was overly prepared. Right off the product page, you can download instructions all about the setup if you wish, which I thought was very thoughtful. I plugged my Modem into the Router and then cabled to my computer, thinking I would have to do some major setup, but no… It instantly connected perfectly and away I went, whew what a joy and relief. All the other computers cabled up in minutes, including to a Wi-Fi unit. So I am very pleased and would highly recommend this product as it is smooth and efficient. I would have given it 5 stars, but the plug that came with it, (see picture attached) was not for Canadian electrical plug systems. (I used an adapter I have from Peru or else I would have been dead in the water). Their customer support was quick and professional and they are working on this for me…

Probably the best you can do for the priceI needed to replace the router for a very modest application as the existing router was no longer receiving security updates and this is probably the most basic and least expensive router you can buy that actively receives firmware patches.My device came with an EU power supply but any 12v adapter will do.

it does the jobI bought this because I needed a new router because I had gotten a new modem from my ISP and it only had 2 ethernet ports. I’ve had to do a hard reset once (with a pin) when it started refusing connections. Other than that it’s been working fine for several weeks now. It does the job. I did not mess with its settings.

Se acabaron los problemas de IP’sEs un aparato genial, yo tengo movistar en casa y el propio router al pasar de 20 dispositivos conectados, me empezaba a tirar aparatos aleatoriamente cuando querÃa, y en una casa comotizada esto es un problema ya que son mas de 50 aparatos. Gracias a este aparato, todo se ha solucionado y ya no me tengo que preocupar de que al levantarme una mañana este la mitad de la casa desconfigurada porque el router de movistar no aguante. Por 40€ vivo bien tranquilo, ojala me hubiese dado cuenta antes de esto.

Wow!So much to say about these. They’re so good, you can run DHCP and DNS on these as backups for your servers, or even in replacement of your server for these services if your network is simple enough (not recommended for complex networks obviously).Can also do multiple subnets for internet connection splitting between offices (i.e. tenant1, tenant2, segregated networks), or for having a completely separate guest wifi network.They’re easy (if you work in the trade) to configure, but not simple. You do have to have a grounding in networking to get along with these, but if you do you will find these are so powerful, almost ISP class features. They probably do more than the average home user would ever need, but represent excellent VFM for SMSP’s providing to SME’s.

Resta sotto osservazione perché questi problemi sono inaccettabili. Il supporto, tramite il forum, funziona bene e rapidamente.The software is extremely powerful, the level installed in highly professional routers, complete with every kind of tools and configuration options. Unfortunately, after a few hours, it has frozen and a factory-reset was required in order to recover and a full re-configuration was needed too, of course. Still under investigation: this kind of problems is unacceptable in production. Support through the forum is fast and excellent.

Tolles GerätDer Router ist definitiv nichts für Anfänger. Kennt man sich allerdings etwas aus, dann ist es die Eierlegende-Wollmilchsau. Ich bin absolut zufrieden. Da das Gerät bei mir 24h läuft ist der niedrige Stromverbrauch auch ein Vorteil. Kaufempfehlung!
