MikroTik quality at a decent priceGreat little router – packed with features. I do wish MikroTik would EOL all of their 100Mb gear and standardize on 1Gb – the lack of even a single 1Gb port is disappointing considering the WiFi is faster than the uplink ports. Buy the 1Gb model if you need more speed.

Software flaw. The company’s approach is appreciable. Some people can and want to setup esoteric networks, and have the understanding to do so. That’s who should buy Mikrotik products. People that want easy coverage should probably spend the extra dollars to go with Ubiquity. The Mikrotik config is not easy beyond the most basic configurations. That said, you can configure it to do nearly anything and thats worth a lot to some. I use one wireless AP, and use this device to connect to the AP, providing a set of wired connections to my network. Thats cool, and not many other devices could be configured to do that. Awesome. (And it works flawlessly.)But something far more basic does not work. The software in RouterOS (mikrotik’s consumer OS) has a major DHCP bug. Although Ive seen it on several devices, is most prevalent on apple clients. It will not complete the address assignment. It offers an address, but quickly determines the address was not accepted and the device is left with a self-assigned useless address. Static reservations do nothing. The only workaround is manually setting the IP in the client, which is an absolutely horrible workaround, especially if you have many clients. I have searched a lot of docs and blogs and this seems to have been an issue for 3 years! It would seem that since a software upgrade in 2017/18, this problem has existed (v6.37.x?). Thats unforgivable. If I was asked to setup a network for anyone else, I would not use this hardware because it doesnt just let you set it and forget it, and when something goes wrong, a degree in comp sci is a bit too necessary. I gave my friend a TPLink router and havent had a single complaint or question, whereas if anything went wrong on a mikrotik device id probably have to physically go there to figure out why.Great for experts (less an infuriating DHCP server bug), and thats it. If I move from my apartment to a house I probably will add mikrotik devices because im pretty invested at this point, but part of that is the expectation that the company will address the DHCP bug.

Great AREDN RouterI bought this to convert to a AREDN router. It worked great. It’s nice that it sits vertically so it uses less desktop than its cousin router by a similar name. Which also works great for AREDN networks.

Network nerds only.Mikrotik makes cool stuff, however, it’s a big step up from Linksys in terms of setup and needing to know what you’re doing. But, you get a whole lot of functionality for a good price. WiFi isn’t the strongest, but it’s a nice box for an apartment.

Good value for the price!Love this router, I recently acquired an optical fiber plan 100mb, the vendor provided me a very low-quality Huawei router I had problems receiving wifi signal from the room next to the room where the router is. With this router it’s a problem from past, the signal is strong and the speed is flawlessly stable, counting the price this is a good cost-value balance.

Over the top complicated functionality, no ease of use. This product takes a masters in network topology to correctly use. A layman can turn it on, and enter a network name and password, but god help you if you want to do more. Of which you can do. vlans, bridging, routing, switching, and more. All laid out in a flat menu that has no help whatsoever on what does what. What big business needs. No home guy.I would never recommend this for home work unless you happen to be a wireless network expert IT at a large international corporation.

Never got it tp work.Sadly, the item never connected to any device. The lan connection would not produce an IP for my device, therefore I was unable to setup HAP. Additionally, it also did not broadcast a SSID so no wifi admin access either.
