These work well so farI bought 3 of these to use with a Mikrotik RB750Gr3 router. I setup CAPsMAN on the router to manage them. There’s a bit of a learning curve with this brand due to the immense amount of configuration options, but the value for the cost is unbeatable in my opinion. I found a CAPsMAN tutorial on youtube by “Winflare” that helped a lot. These cAP Lite units come with a default static address that must be deleted and replaced with DHCP for them to work with CAPsMAN, but so far they seem pretty stable and fast enough for my needs. My cable ISP gives me about 40-50 MBPS download and these keep up with that. I had no DOA units out of the 3 I bought. I like the low cost, compact size and lack of bright LED’s after you get the cover on. I’m still not sure how much range they have but due to the fact that the antennas are circuit board traces, these probably don’t have much range outside the home.

Nice but hard to configure properlyThe device looks great and is much smaller than our smoke detectors. Installation on the ceiling was a bit tricky since the ethernet cable has to be bent quite a bit to be inserted while passing it through the little guide hole but once its in, the cable doesn’t stay too bent.Capsman was a bit tricky to setup, but after a lot of trial and error I finally got it working. Network throughput was always bad but I found that updating the routeros version on both the rb1100ah and rbcapl-2nd revealed a “rates” section. Fiddling with that increased the speed slightly but I’ve had trouble getting over 15Mbps while running a local “speed test” running on my local network. For reference, wired computers were getting over 600mbps. A separate test with the cheap edimax 150n ap (also 2.4ghz) was getting me 30-60mbps.The range on these is also quite bad. I bought 2 and put one in the narrow hallway between 3 bedrooms and another in the dining room near living room and kitchen so the distance is never more than 30 feet and there is never more than 1 wall/door between device and ap and I frequently have connection issues.I haven’t configured these as standalone yet and I also have them both on the same ESSID but on different channels. One of my neighbor’s WiFi must be set on really high power as scanners show it gives off a much stronger signal than the rbcapl-2nd just a few feet away. Other nearby WiFi’s create more traffic on pretty much all channels 1-11 but I’ve also tested speed at odd hours (3am for example) with little difference.Perhaps a better selection of rates/mcs values will help but I have no idea what that all really means.

signal and speed has been great for the last week when connected to itThis access point works well. It does have a learning curve if you are new to Mikro Tik and Router OS but setting this up is not too hard. So far, signal and speed has been great for the last week when connected to it.

DOAWon’t power up. Testing and QC apparently absent. Very disappointing.Provided power supply produces 24 volts so this it is not the cause. Returned and a replacement requested. We’ll see how this goes but thus far, my experience agrees with other reviews that this product is not ready for market.
